I was in a disaster situation and this company took advantage of that. They never showed me a bill and I had no choice but to sign an emergency authorization form which basically said that Big West Building company could file a lien on my house if the bill wasn't paid. They tarped my 1800 square foot roof, that still leaked later on, and charge my insurance $18,000. This is very unlawful as the going price for roof tarping was about $1.50/ per square foot to $2.00/ square foot. What a way to help your fellow man? Now my insurance company has to battle it out with their lawyers, because they believe the bill is too high.

      Ms. *********
Thank you for the feedback but unfortunately the facts have not been accurately represented in your statements. These type of reviews and allegations that we have acted unlawfully are damaging to our business and we do not take these lightly.

The Emergency Services Agreement you executed with Big West states:
"Contract & Pricing: A Xactimate estimate will be written to define the scope and pricing, based on time, equipment & materials."

After performing emergency mitigation services that you requested from Big West, this is exactly what we did; along with providing many other documents that support and justify the work performed. Your total roof surface area is 4,060 square feet according to the Eagle View report for your property.

We have also never threatened you with lien on your property. Any service provider that does work on your property, retains the legal right to file a lien for non-payment if done in accordance with LA state law. In good faith, we funded the entire scope of your emergency mitigation project and have never pressed you for any payments, despite our invoice being over three months delinquent. We do not believe it would be ethical to file a lien on your property while your insurance carrier is determining coverage and allocations.

Per our contract, you authorized Big West to bill your insurance carrier directly, which we have done. We do this in order to work with the carrier directly and reduce the middle-man stress on our customers. Our attorney was hired to work with your insurance carrier on a settlement amount for the invoice, because it is very delinquent. Despite a delinquency of over 3 months, we have never even asked you for funds or threatened you with a lien. We are operating in good faith, but we must collect funds on services provided.

Furthermore, a tarp is not a permanent means to seal your roof. This is stated in your contract. It is a temporary effort to mitigate ongoing or further damages. That is why you have likely moved forward with a full roof replacement, because a tarp is not meant to serve as a roofing system and will not last for an extended period of time.

We encourage you to reach out to our office if you have not obtained the entire emergency mitigation package that was submitted to your insurance carrier so you can understand the basis of our billing. We do not wish to have any disputes or unsatisfied customers. A simple review of the contract, Xactimate estimate, billing rates, Eagle View, photo report, etc. and a conversation with our team would likely be sufficient to resolve any dissatisfaction you may have.
