My husband and I filed criminal charges against this tax preparer for forging our signatures on our IRS refund check that was printed at her office in order to be mailed to us after she had prepared our 2020 taxes. After numerous conversations with this preparer telling us that our check was in the mail being delivered to us, we became suspicious after never receiving the check and contacted the bank that she does her business through. We were informed by them the our check had been mobile deposited into her CCO's personal bank account who happens to be her daughter that works for her. The company provided us a copy of the cashed check and it showed that my husband and I's signatures had both been forged on the check along with the CCO's signature allowing for a mobile deposit into her personal account. This occurred in September 2021. We never gave our consent for this to be done or discussed at anytime with the tax preparer about this occurring. She also never mentioned any of this to us after we filed forgery charges against her bank letting them know what she had done. Her bank started a forgery case and said they would contact her to get her to return the money to us. We never heard from her and after the 120 days which the bank said it takes to investigate, they contacted us informing us that they would be issuing us a check for the amount that was stolen which was over $17,000. Again, the tax preparer never tried to reach out to us explaining what had happened or trying to resolve it in any way. She also double charged us for tax preparation fees during the 6 years that we did business with her by personally charging us her fee after the fee had already been deducted from our refund check. This was unknown to us until after the forgery case was opened and we were informed this by her bank. This business owner practices very unethical business practices, by intentionally misleading her clients into trusting her with their taxes, then steals from them.
