      I had a virtual visit with a provider at PMA Health on 3/24. On 4/1, my insurer notified me they processed the claim and also made the outstanding payment. However, on 4/6, i receive a statement from PMA Health informing me that my credit card had been charged $116.36 for outstanding charges--less than 2 weeks after the visit. I called their billing office and they said they had not received any payment from the insurer and i should contact my insurer and then call them back again and they can refund the charge. I called my insurer and they confirmed that an online payment was made on 3/31 and that it is up to the provider to apply that payment to their account. I called PMAs billing office again to let them know of this and the outgoing payment number from insurer and in PMA Health's own words, it can take up to 2 weeks for payments to show in their accounts and i should call them back after 2 weeks to check if they received the payment from insurance and they could start a refund. Also, that i consented to my card being charged for outstanding charges. When i pressed them that if they knew that it can take 2 weeks to receive insurance payments, what was the hurry to charge my card and declare something as outstanding in 4 days as opposed to 2 weeks, i got a wishy washy reply to contact Privia Health who handles their billing. I was also told they sent a text message and a phone call to inform about the upcoming charge--i have received neither. I called Privia Health and was told "they would be happy to refund the charge if i called them on the 4/15 (2 weeks from from when the payment was processed) once they had proof of receiving it." So they would be happy to refund my money which has been double billed because they had my card on file? As much as i love my providers, this reeks of bad business--you are charging both customers and insurers and keep the double payment and its interest in your accounts and refund it only if a customer noticed and raised an alarm.
