I was having issues with one of my home units not cooling. On 06/10/24 a technician came to my home to diagnose. After inspecting my outside unit, the scare tactics began with high costs of repairs including possibly needing a new compressor $4650. The technician then proceeded up in the attic to begin diagnostic testing. He showed me a video of a small boulder of ice on the coil and told me I had a leak. More fear driven information was delivered starting with R22 @ $300 lbs stating that I would need 9-10 lbs. $1960 my unit holds 6, the coil would need to be replaced $4105. With new compressor $10,800 without compressor $6,065. The technician then began to deliver a sales pitch on a brand new unit $10,000 - $15,000. My intuition told me from the word go that I was being bamboozled, I am a woman and I've been trained to recognize fraud by my father and also working in the corporate world; with a variety of experience including HR/Training. I gave him a check for $85 for the service call and told him I would be getting other estimates and he quickly said save us for last with a possible new unit scheduled for sales pitch Friday, June 14. I let the unit thaw out over night and turned it on the next morning, it was blowing cool not hot like before.I had two (2) different companies come out. Both said you can't make a diagnosis when a unit is frozen like mine was, they both said they charge $80 lb for the same refrigerant, they both said there was no leak but all I needed was 3 lbs of R22 and the condenser needed to be cleaned. I made my decision and chose the most Godly man. For $390 I was up and running and now my home is ice cold like we like it. Both men said I was being taken advantage of for money and especially because I'm a woman! They both hoped I would report it. I called AirCo and told them don't bother with the Friday appointment and told them the outcome, told them to remove my account from their system. At the very least I want my $85 refunded. BBB next
