In August of this year we had Ramos Lawn and Landscaping; they also go by ****** Ramos Tree ******************************************* Works and on their estimates; Brothers Tree ******************************************* Works. After some back and forth on what we wanted done we hired ****** and his son ***** at the end of September of 2021 to remove a flower bed at the front of the house and replace it with stepping stones and sod. They were to remove some monkey grass and replace with decorative stone. Also remove another flower bed on the side of the house and replace it with a 13 x 3 cement slab and 5 stepping stones to a gate. They were to plant 3 trees and replant 2 small *********************** trees. With their suggestion replace the sidewalk leading up to the house 19 x 3 feet. They were to add top soil and sod where needed. Their estimate was $8000 and we agreed to it. This included all labor and supplies. Our first mistake; ****** the father insisted we pay $3K prior to the start which we did. After removing the front flower bed and the side flower bed and planting 3 trees, replanting another 2 and framing for the stepping stones, cement slab and sidewalk the we reluctantly paid them another $3250 because they were needing to pay for the cement. While digging through the flower beds they admittingly severed my sprinkler wires which they said they'd fix. When they came back a few days later we had questions on why they were running our sprinkler lines under the stepping stones instead of moving them, the height of the stepping stones being higher than our foundation (didn't want water running towards our foundation) and the look of the stepping stones. ****** became argumentative about the stepping stones. We wanted the stepping stones to look whiteish in color, like it naturally does with new cement. ****** started going off saying we weren't going to be happy with the way that it would look on completion and was going on saying we wouldn't pay the remaining balance. This was crazy since at most they did was $4K of work at this point and that generous and we paid them $6,250. He told us he was finished and walking off the job. He abruptly left and didn't want to pay us back any of the money we had paid him. We said he owned at least $2K back. To complete the work the cement work cost us $2300, sod $600, top soil $60 and stepping stones $500+ and to fix the sprinkler systems which they admittingly messed up another $1,200 (they cut the wires in 2 spots and to run the sprinkler wires to where they weren't under the stepping stones should something go wrong over time). We learned our ****** not to pay until the work is completed. On a side note ****** treated the people working for him in a demeaning way. His son ***** was much more reserved and was there most of the time. They over promised and under delivered, they kept pushing time lines back and etc. I would never recommend them to anyone. It is of my opinion that he planned to walk out and not complete the job. All of the framing they did for the stepping stones and cement slab had to be redone.
