I boarded my 6-month-old English Bulldog and 4-year-old Cavalier with LAKESIDE PAWS from the 27(12pm)-31st (12pm) of July. Usually, lakeside paws shows their dogs everyday on their Facebook live. Well, I had not seen Harley on the live feed the entire time we had been gone. I commented on their live saying I hadn't seen her, when the next day I received a text that she needed medical attention and they were bringing her to their vet (not our vet we put on the intake form). I asked the owner for pictures of our Harley and she never sent them. I had to ask their vet (a stranger I've never met) to send me photos of my injured dog. We had gotten a picture of Harley with her neck all wet and what appeared to be feces and urine stains causing an infection. We speculate that she was left in her crate for a very long time over the short 4 days she was there. I texted the owner *attached screenshot* stating that our baby Harley had never gotten an infection and was healthy when she got there. I asked her what happened, the owner called me and : The owner was absolutely unprofessional. She said "cut it with the attitude with me..if you don't trust with me your dog, come get her right now I'm not watching her" and hung up on me. The owner left on Sunday and left many dogs unattended. When we arrived, Harley was soaking wet. This is after the owner and I discussed that she would keep Harley dry to stop infection. When we talked about Harley's injuries they mentioned that they had "over 30 dogs." I couldn't imagine how they would handle a dog fight breaking out. They sent us an $130 vet bill due to injuries suffered at their establishment after we paid $500 for a job that was supposed to be performed properly. In addition, I posted our experience on our neighborhood's Facebook page and was told that the owner uses riding crops to discipline dogs, muzzles them when not necessary, and also runs an animal rescue where she kills them if they can't be adopted

      Business response

      09/22/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/10) */ Lakeside Paws admits that the two pups referenced above came to stay at our boarding facility in July. However, we deny the rest of the allegations. While we do attempt to showcase our boarding dogs on a live feed, not every dog is captured in the feed nor is it a guarantee we provide to pet owners. We do, however, always comply with providing updates on pups and will send pictures when we are able to do while still caring for boarding dogs, training dogs and some rescues. The staff goes through a vigorous training program and as part of that training, they learn to watch for and identify health issues. The staff is apportioned to the amount of dogs in boarding etc. as well and we regularly have supervisors available to assist as needed. We have over 30 employees for our small business- to state we are understaffed is incorrect. The owners came to pick up outside of our normal pick up/drop off hours over nap time when we only have two people at the front to ensure kennel area is quiet for rest. In this case, the Bulldog known as Harley loves the water and regularly would jump into water bowls. While every effort was made to dry her off, it was this wetness that contributed to her hot spots developing. She would spill her water bowl in kennel and lay in it as well. Owner later told me on the phone they have a special water bowl she uses at home to prevent this which they did not bring us. The team noticed irritation (not an injury) on her neck and promptly contacted the owner and made arrangements to get her into a credible vet nearby and one known by the facility. The pup was treated promptly, and the owner advised and verbally consented at veterinary clinic via phone. At no time did the owner provide alternative instructions nor did she make arrangements to pick up the pup. She accepted the services without reservation but has failed to pay the vet for the treatment despite raising the reasonable $130.00 vet bill in her complaint. Our company actually had to pay the veterinarian for her time and services because the owner did not. She also makes general subjective comments with no proof to support her outrageous and quite frankly defamatory complaints. We do not use dangerous tools or means to train or discipline our dogs, we do not euthanize dogs for space and/or when we cannot get them adopted; and we did nothing wrong with respect to the two pups raised by Ms. XXXX. As a matter of fact, the reason Ms. Xx became irate was because I suggested she no longer board at our facility when she became belligerent and aggressive towards me and my team. At that point, she engaged in a smear campaign, and we are evaluating action in that regard. Bottom line, we run a reputable business in training and boarding, where we give back to the community by rescuing dogs. We did not keep her dogs kenneled, we took them out for short periods of time in light of the heat and the fact that her English Bulldog should not be in the heat for any extended periods of time, and we promptly contacted her and the nearby vet upon seeing the hot spot on her. Bulldogs can basically go out to potty and right back in during the Texas summer. The dogs were both well loved and cared for while at Lakeside.
