I am writing to formally complain about an issue I encountered at The Residence at ************, located at *************************************************** lease ended on August 1st, 2024, and I completed moving out and cleaning the apartment on July 26th, 2024. When I went to return the keys on August 1st, 2024, I discovered that the lock had been changed without my knowledge or permission. This occurred while I was still paying rent and should have had access to the apartment.I spoke to the office staff, who were unaware of the lock change and assured me that it was not standard practice to change locks before the keys were returned. I am concerned about this unauthorized action and the potential impact on my move-out charges, as there were no damages to the apartment when I left.In accordance with Texas Property Code Section *******, landlords are prohibited from changing the locks without providing proper notice or having a valid reason, such as non-payment of rent or abandonment. Since I was still paying rent and had the right to access the apartment until the end of my lease, the lock change without notice appears to be a violation of my rights.I have attached proof of my last two rental payments for the months of July and August to this email.I request an immediate investigation into this matter and confirmation that I will not be held responsible for any damages that occurred after I vacated the premises. I also seek a written explanation for the unauthorized lock change and the steps that will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.Please address this issue promptly and confirm receipt of this email. I look forward to your response and resolution.
