Metal Roof installation has been completed but install of gutters over drip edge was poorly installed & was recently removed by Ark Roofing per my request. First day gutter contractor arrived in Nov. I called ****** & voiced my concerns on the skill level of the installer I observed & asked for the work to stop & wanted them to leave but the job went forward. The gutter contractor was hired by ****** but I have since hired a gutter installer to do this work but can not be completed as the drip edge material has cuts & s**** holes all along the roof line. This has compromised the integrity/quality of material which exposes the fascia to *********** damage. Recently ***************************** with Ark came up with a solution to cover the existing drip edge where exposed with another metal edge but this is not the best solution as the fascia is still at risk of water penetration where a 2nd layer of material is just fitted over destroyed metal edging & not covering it completely. There is also a rotted wood patio rafter that was left in place & recently metal flashing was installed over the two end caps. I have ants that have infested this rotted rafter tip now & at install in Nov. of wood decking for prep of metal panels this was just covered over. I brought it to *************** attention during roof tear off that it was not acceptable to cover this rotted board but work progressed.I paid for a roof inspection in *********** noted rafter should be replaced as well as gutters as they are crooked, leak & do not drain water. This whole experience has affected my mental health & well being leaving me stressed & in March I developed Shingles from this whole experience since this has left me stressed & feeling hopeless. There was situation in Nov. where metal flashing was cut & destroyed on corners of the chimney leaving existing flashing exposed again to water *************** said it was not acceptable to just caulk then paint. That was eventually corrected.

It sounds like the complaints that are current, are the rotted rafter, and metal drip edge flashing around the perimeter where the gutters are to be installed.

Regarding the rotted ************************** with Ark brought this to ********** attention on 3 separate occasions, that we suggest replacing it.  ******** denied this remedy all 3 times, hence why it never got done.  Insurance never paid for it, and neither was ******** wanting to, therefore the reason why it was never done.   After 3 times of suggesting it, and getting told to not mess with it, we had no choice but to carry on with our work.

Regarding the drip edge, in order to install gutters around the home, the flashing needs to be snipped in certain places to accommodate the gutter install.   After we installed the gutters, there were issues with the gutter job, and instead of ******** letting us redo them, to make things right, ******** told us she doesn't want us to redo the gutters and attempt to make it right.  Therefore, she ordered us to remove the gutters, and she would have her own gutter crew put gutters on afterwards.      Therefore, is the reason why ********** drip edge is still in the "prep for gutters" stage.       You cannot replace the drip edge metal flashing without replacing the roof panels.    You do not need to replace the drip edge, since it needs to be snipped for preparation of gutters.   Once ******** has the new gutters installed by her own gutter crew, the drip edge will be as it should.   Regarding the complaints from the gutter s**** holes made, you can choose to use the same s**** holes when you put the newest gutters on, so it is also unnecessary to replace the drip edge because of this.

Please note, ******** has kicked our crews off her property 3 times, in a 3 month period.  We tried to make her happy temporarily in between her putting the new gutters up, by putting new drip edge over the "gutter prepped" drip edge, even though this wasn't needed since the gutter crew would have to remove or cut it anyways, but we did everything we could to make ******** satisfied.   Ark always makes it right, only if the homeowner allows it, but we also make sure the homeowner doesn't try and take advantage of that, just like in this situation.

It is my option Complaint: 17014244

I am rejecting this response because: He said - she said is not truthful from Arks response. I have a product currently on my home that is sub standard (drip edge) & is damaged & no longer serving the purpose of shielding water. I have had to watch the progress of this roof install from day one & there were short cuts being made at my expense thus is the reason for having the crew to leave on occasions per response submitted. If not the homeowner; who over sees that quality work is ycarried out & completed to specifications?

I asked ****** to stop the gutter install with who he contracted as I could see the skill level was way below what the gutter install entailed This was very apparent from the moment tear off of old gutter began..

      Regards,

      In response...

Drip edge is metal flashing installed at the edges of the roof to keep water away from your fascia and from getting underneath your roofing components.  It serves a vital function by directing water away from the fascia and into the gutter.

When installing gutters in between the drip edge flashing and the fascia, you must bend the flashing away from the fascia to allow easy install of the gutters behind it, and it is also standard practice to snip areas to allow gutter installation as needed.  (the cuts made on the drip edge are only on the lower visible edge and does not extend under the roof)

After gutters are in place, the drip edge is then screwed back into the fascia with the gutters.  After this is completed, everything is water tight from entry under the roof, and in place to allow water to shed into the gutter.

Ark Roofer completed the job, roof and gutters.  No complaints about the drip edge were expressed until the homeowner wanted Ark Roofer to remove the gutters.  Ark Roofer agreed to remove the gutters and not charge the homeowner at all for them.  We were wanting to do everything to satisfy the homeowner.

After the gutters were removed, the complaints about the drip edge "being compromised" began.  The drip edge in fact will not be compromised once new gutters are installed.  The homeowner told us she has found another company to install them, but wants Ark to replace all the drip edge around the home before this happens.

As a professional and reputable company in this industry, we have tried to satisfy the client's concerns on numerous occasions.  Unfortunately Ark was turned away 3 different times and was told to leave the property.  In conclusion, the roof is complete, drip edge is ready for gutter install, and job has been finalized by Ark Roofer.
