I ordered a 4r70E transmission for my 2005 **** f150 pick up truck but that's not what was delivered what was delivered was a 4r75E transmission the transmission was installed that's when we learned that I had received the wrong transmission for my truck as the shifter cable would not engage upon doing research we learn that the company sent the wrong transmission from what was ordered according to my invoice I spoke with someone and he informed me that the company would pay at $50 an hour for labor but I informed him that I was charged $1500 because it's a 4 wheel drive vehicle he then stated that I would have to pay the difference now I could understand if I ordered the wrong transmission then fine but that was a mistake on the company they sent me the wrong transmission error on the company so why should I have to pay all over again? That's definitely not right and you should not treat customers this way. this is very unprofessional and I would like to receive a call from corporate office regarding this matter thank you

We first want to apologize for the issues that ************** has experienced with his remanufactured product.  After reviewing Mr. ****** warranty claim (WC207421), it does appear that the unit ordered for him by Advance Auto Parts was the incorrect unit for his vehicle.  The Advance Auto Parts store has been contacted and instructed to reorder the correct number for **************.  We have also spoken to both ************** and his mechanic that is performing the removal and reinstallation of the correct unit and notified them that the correct unit is being reordered by Advance Auto Parts.  Despite the issue being caused by the Advance Auto Parts store ordering the incorrect part, we have agreed to reimburse ************** for the repair work at his mechanics posted labor rate.

I BOUGHT A REMAN ENGINE. THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THE HEAD GASKET IS ALLOWING OIL TO LEAK A GREAT DEAL. THE ENGINE HAS HAD ZERO MILES PUT ON IT. SPARTAN WANTS ME TO PAY FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE TO FIX IT AT 50 PER HOUR. THE **** CHARGES 115 HR. THIS IS A SPARTAN DEFECT AND I DONT FEEL I SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR ANY EXPENSE FOR A ENGINE REPAIR THAT WAS NOT REMANUFACTURED CORRECTLY OR TESTED PROPERLY , IF IT WAS TESTED PROPERLY THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH THE REBUILD THEY DID. THE REPAIR THAT WAS AUTHRIZED WAS GASKET REPLACEMENT. 11HR FOR ******* AND THEY WANT TO ONLY REIMBURSE ******. GASKET REPLACEMENT IS NOT THE PROPER FIX. THE BLOCK AND HEAD NEED TO MACHINED TO FIX IT PROPERLY. i WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ONE OF THERE PREFERRED LOCATIONS AND THEY WORK TOGETHER TO GET THE VEHILCE REPAIRED AT ZERO EXPENSE TO ME. i BOUGHT THE ***** THAT THERE WOULD BE NO ISSUES WITH IT PRIOR TO DRIVING THE **** I DIDNT WANT TO BUY A BROKEN ***** BECAUSE I WANTED TO REPAIR IT PRIOR TO EVEN USING IT.

The engine is faulty and their warranty process to "prove" so is ridiculous. We've been waiting nearly 3 months for a new engine.

We first want to apologize for any issue that ************** is experiencing with her product.  At this time, we are unable to locate any open warranty claim with any of information that ************** has provided.  Could we please get a warranty claim number, product serial number, repair shop information.  We will be happy to address ****************** concern, but will need more information to do so.

We thank you for providing the information for the repair shop (2 Guys Garage).  With that information, we were able to locate warranty claim number WC170591 in our system.  It appears that 2 Guys Garage actually purchased this engine directly from Advance Auto and not ***************  We received an electronic request to open a warranty claim from the shop on 11/21/2023.  We opened the claim on 11/21/2023 and spoke with Mysti at the shop and explained the documentation that we would need to begin working the claim.  The documentation that we received on 11/21/2023 (photos) were inconclusive and after our level 2 technician spoke with **** (the shop technician), what they believe the issue to be and the data provided does not make technical sense.  At that point, our level 2 technician requested some more diagnostic work to determine the cause of failure.  On 12/06/2023, we received the photos of the extra diagnostic work we requested and sent an email confirmation to the shop advising them of the next steps to advance their claim; shop was to call into our level 2 tech line and discuss the diagnostic results.  On 12/12/2023, the shop finally called us back to discuss the results of the latest diagnostic work.  Our level 2 technician advised *** (the shop technician) that we needed to confirm where the compression loss is occurring and requested another test as their claims and diagnostic work thus far were still not making technical sense.  We have to have just cause and proof that we actually need to send a replacement unit before doing so.  At this point, we are still waiting on the shop to provide the results.  Once completed, the shop should submit the documentation to us and contact our level 2 tech line to discuss next steps; until this occurs, this claim cannot be advanced.

I am rejecting this response because:   neither the mechanic nor I should have to go through so many steps to prove the engine needs to be replaced. Thousands of dollars were spent on the engine and it is under warranty and is faulty, send a replacement or refund us for the engine so we can buy a new one!

      Customer response

      01/04/2024

As of now, Spartan is still rejecting the mechanics diagnostic results, requesting more diagnostic work, and is expecting further proof that the engine is faulty. The claim has been open for about 45 days now, leaving me without my vehicle because they won't replace the engine of which I just paid nearly $5,000 for. At this point I want to return the engine and want a full refund as the warranty process is not good for the consumer nor their mechanic.

      Customer response

      02/15/2024

The engine has been removed from my vehicle and I no longer have to deal with this company, who did NOT attempt in anyway whatsoever to replace their faulty engine which had a cylinder issue. I pray they accept the return and refund the money appropriately, in addition to compensating for the original engine core they received that came out of my vehicle.

About 3 years ago I had the engine replaced on my 2011 **** F-150 with a Spartan engine and now this engine has failed again, this time the timing chains have gone bad apparently and it is back in the shop with repairs that are going to Total over $3,000 according to Spartan engines when I called them they said my warranty expired 3 months ago and that they were sorry about my luck this engine that I've had for 3 years from them only has ****** miles on it and I've had to have several repairs done since I've had it four times the turbos went out and there's some other problems that have occurred of which caused me to have to take it into the shop over and over again I talked to several mechanics that are certified and they said this engine should not have failed so soon and I'm in total agreement, Spartan customer service told me to contact advance Auto, because the engine was back through them and after contacting advance Auto they also told me that I'm just out of luck I don't feel that I should have to incur a $3,000 repair bill over this engine that has failed when the mechanics do take it apart at a certified shop they are going to take pictures of what failed and why but in the meanwhile I'm stuck with the repair cost, if I had known these engines don't last I wouldn't have bought one in total to have my engine replaced with the Spartan engine was almost $7,000 and you would think that would last more than 3 years I am asking Spartan to look into this and to come to some resolution to where this is not coming out of mine and my family's pockets again I am very upset right now of course it's the dead of winter here and I don't even have a vehicle that I can depend on and I am really upset to be told that we're sorry about your luck...

We first want to apologize for the issue that ************** is experiencing with his product purchased from Advance Auto Parts.  We show that the engine for ****************** vehicle with VIN of ***************** was sold to Advance Auto parts on 08/25/2020.  All engines sold by Advance Auto Parts under the Spartan brand name come with a 3 year, unlimited mileage warranty; although the engine in question may only have ****** miles since it was installed, the warranty is expired based on date of purchase.  At this time, the warranty on this product is expired and we consider this case to be closed.

      Customer response

      12/01/2023

And what troubles me as well is that the warranty dates back to when I bought the engine and not when it was installed, it is not right an engine lasts only 2 months past the warranty and only ****** miles and why does a company treat the consumer so bad after they get our money...

      Customer response

      12/01/2023

I am rejecting this response because:  you are selling a bad engine and there is no reason for it to fail and i pay for the selling of junk, as I see by all the complaints filed against spartan, they continue to get away with cheating people who work hard in this country and have served this country to keep Americans safe. when they engine gets worked on monday I will have them take pictures of the faulty engine components and I will let this world know what terrible people are at spartan engine....

      Business response

      12/04/2023

We again want to apologize for the issue that ************** is experiencing with his product purchased from Advance Auto Parts, but as previously stated the warranty is now expired.  We understand that ************** doesnt agree with the warranty start date, but per the written Spartan Engine warranty terms posted on the Advance Auto Parts website, the warranty begins on the original date of purchase (attached).  In his original complaint,************** cited multiple turbo failures as well as other issues that have required him to have repairs completed.  Turbo failures or any other failed components not supplied with our product that he purchased from Advance Auto Parts may likely be what has caused the current issue ************** is experiencing now.  Again, per the terms of the Spartan Engine warranty, the warranty is expired, and we consider this case to be closed.

I have the truck in the shop now and they're going to begin tearing it apart tomorrow and take pictures and document what failed inside the engine along with the timing chains, whatever did fail is internal within the engine that was bought and I am not closing this case till I get satisfaction, I am filing with every board I'm going on social media I'm going to make this case known to every consumer out there, I want the world to know how this company treats people that buy from them, those words I'm not a man who takes no for an answer when I have worked all my life to earn the money that I spend has this engine is dismantled to determine what caused the failure I will have pictures and documentation from certified mechanics to show you that this is a quality control issue after all we still do have quality control I would assume, so at this time I am not backing down and moving forward like I said previously this is going to cost me $3,000 to fix the timing chain kit alone is over $400 just because this is a big company doesn't mean they can walk on the little man not all of us are going to take it, when I finally do get done the world will know what's this engine company is all about I will make sure of it and I'll do it all legal, after we get this engine apart and we find out it is a quality control issue and then we will be going to court, so rather than saying over sorry your warranties up too bad it should have been more like well let's find out what caused this and deal with it then, and the warranty being up and less than 3 months this is ridiculous that's okay we will deal with this but I'm not giving up yet or ever will I will make this company famous...

      Customer response

      12/04/2023

Here are pictures of the inside of the engine you can see where the bolt is backing out and the timing chains stretched and the guides are pretty tore up and this is only a 3-year-old engine with ****** miles on it this is internal and there's no reason for that bolt to back out like it did so this is a quality issue with this engine and you can't tell me it's not or any other mechanic that it's not why would the bolt on a new engine back out like that, so now my bill for this repair is going to be $3,800 I would just inform today not *****.... $3,800 and this company should do what's right and pay for this repairs and parts on their engine that they sold me this bringing the total cost of this engine to over $10,000 Spartan engine needs to do what's right and quit trying to get out of selling defective products

      Customer response

      12/07/2023

I have submitted the pictures of the engine taken apart showing that there is a bolt backing out and causing internal damage this is a quality control issue because there's no reason for this to back out like it is, this is the engine company's responsibility and they should be held liable for this and should incur the cost of all the repairs and parts which amounts to $3,800 according to a reputable shop called ****** truck repair in ********* they are all certified mechanics and it's not all the cost the majority of it why should the consumer have to pay to have an engine repaired that's only 3 years old and ****** miles treating the consumer like this it's not right especially to a senior citizen and to a man who fought for this country to keep ******* free...

      Customer response

      12/12/2023

The certified shop has took the engine apart and no less than four certified mechanics have stated this is not a new engine with 3 years of age and ****** miles, I am not a mechanic so I'm just going by what professionals say and they say the sludge and debris that is in this engine has been baked on for many many years and it will not come out and keep plugging everything up and the timing chains as you'll see in the picture are to the limit if this is a Spartan engine something is wrong because it should not be in this condition and I have the documentation of every oil change that I have had done by regular shops if you zoom in on the pictures you'll see the damage and the crud on this engine even if I use a poor quality of oil which I didn't I only used synthetic or synthetic blend according to the instructions and we were trying to locate the serial number on this engine and we can't seem to find it nobody at Spartan will tell us where it is but this is the engine that was allegedly sold to **************** to replace the engine that I had in there now we are wondering is this a Spartan engine or did they put a used engine from someplace else we can't figure out where the serial number is so we can check so if ********************** would tell me at least where the serial number is and then we can proceed forward but if this is their engine and then it's in really bad shape attached you will find the pictures taken yesterday afternoon

Started having problems with the engine (less than 3 yrs old). Filed a claim, talked to customer service and tech 1. Was told to take it to the shop, I had already paid for a diagnostic test from 1 mechanic, 2nd mechanic had it for 2 weeks and couldn't get no where or talk to anyone on the phone, he no longer wanted to mess with it, had to pay him.. went to a 3rd mechanic and it has been sitting there ever since the 2nd week in August.. he finally was able to talk to someone and they told him something completely different than they told me.. wanted more test done, videos and pictures and he has been waiting over a week for results and answers from them and still nothing.. they have been giving use the run around and waiting for our warranty to expire. Here it is 2nd week of September and we have to pay another mechanic for the diagnostics he ran and we still don't have a engine replacement.. ************ is absolutely ridiculous and gave us the run around for over a month. Warranty was still on engine when claim was filed.. and still nothing, just wanted the engine replaced so my son could drive the ************'m still waiting..

We first want to apologize for the issue that ******************** is experiencing with her remanufactured engine. I see that we opened warranty claim number WC157336 on 08/08/2023 when she called us to report the issue.   On 08/08/2023, the complaint ******************** reported was for a leaking head gasket, white smoke and oil getting in the radiator; at this time ******************** could not provide any information for the shop that was working on the vehicle.  On 08/10/2023, we received a call from **** (presumably 1st repair shop) and transferred him to our L1 technicians, but it doesnt look like **** held the line until he could talk to one of our techs.  On 08/14/2023, we spoke to ******************** and she stated shop had not been able to get in contact with us.  08/16/2023, we received new shop information from ******************** and advised to have the new shop call our tech line.  08/23/2023, we received a call from ****** (2nd shop) and transferred him to our L1 tech line; ****** advised our L1 tech that he wasnt sure what the issue was.  We instructed ****** on the initial diagnostic work we needed completed and to call us back with results.  08/28/2023 we received the next call from ****** where he reported his findings of the initial diagnostic work.  At this point, the initial diagnostics were inconclusive, and we ordered an additional test to be documented with pictures and send pictures to our upload team.  To date, we have not received the pictures that were requested and there has been no further contact on this claim since 08/28/2023.  Based on the BBB complaint,it sounds like ******************** now has this vehicle at a third shop; at this point we will still have to have the test results and pictures we advised her second shop to perform.  Until we have the needed data to deem that our product is indeed faulty, we cannot supply a replacement engine.

I am rejecting this response because:   Just wanted to respond to you, the only reason I'm rejecting your response , because either way, we paid a lot of money for a motor that didn't even last its warranty. We haven't moved the truck from ******'s, it has been there since August. **** did call numerous times and couldn't get through and I even called and practically begged the Tech to call him back and he said he would and never did.. so we took it to ****** after **** said he couldn't get anywhere with y'all. ****** said he called and y'all wanted more test and videos and pictures and he said he would upload and wait 45 mins and suppose to call back..when I talked to him, he said he was waiting on a email to whether it was approved or not and it hasn't arrived.. when I called and talked to the Tech he would tell me something different and then when the mechanic would call they wanted a ton of test etc.. either way no matter what I say or however we go back and forth the warranty is out and your company gave us the run the around and told us completely different things. And we still have to pay for the test and things that was done to the truck.. Thank you for your time..

Got a rebuilt engine right after we installed it number 3 cylinder had no compression. Did a compression test number 3 cylinder has a bad compression leak. Put a camera to see why the cylinder wall was corroded. Its been missing on this cylinder. Called the company gave us a big run around wanted pictures and proof. We didnt have fun changing the engine and not looking forward to change it again apparently they dont believe us. Cause the are still not offering to exchange this engine. And dont seem to want us to return it. Wish we would have done more research on this company they are not reliable

We first want to apologize to ***************** for the issue that she is experiencing with her remanufactured engine.  After reviewing all of the notes regarding her claim (WC129408), it does appear that we requested documentation of the reported damage on 12/12/22, 02/27/23, 03/07/23, and finally received the needed documentation on 03/20/23; this is part of our standard warranty process for all customers.  Due to the cost of our products and the written Spartan Engine warranty terms, we first have to determine the root issue and then decide on the best course of action, whether that be a repair or a replacement. I do see that we approved a replacement on 03/28/23 and have sent a request for Advance store #**** to get the order placed.  Once we receive the order from her local store,we will get the order processed and shipped to the store.  At this time, we have honored our commitment to the written warranty terms and satisfied her desired settlement of a replacement being authorized.

Called Spartan about replacement engine, they said they has in stock and could deliver within 2 weeks because it was in stock. Collected money from customer to place engine order, called again to verify stock on 11/18/22 and placed order. Engine was never delivered, and they kept emailing saying it was being built, or the parts were not available and they were waiting for a delivery of parts. We received an email forwarded from advance auto on 2/14/22 stating that engine production had not been started due to waiting on parts from *****. I called ****** an inquired about parts to rebuild engine and basically everything was available. We then called spartan on 2/14/23 and they stated they hadn't given delivery of that engine since August or 2022, so we asked if that were the case then why did they say an engine was available, and why was it available to order if they could not supply said engine. I now have a very unhappy customer that is out $4389.99 with no engine, and a vehicle that he needs to get his family around in, that Spartan apparently cannot supply after taking the order and the money knowing that they couldn't deliver.

      Business response

      03/06/2023

We first want to apologize to **************** for the delay in the arrival of the engine that he purchased. Based on our sales history, it appears that we haven't been able to build this engine in over a year due to supply chain constraints and other variables. What is unclear to ** is who conveyed that the engine was in stock and that **************** would receive within 2 weeks? We believe there may have been a miscommunication from his supplier; this unit is built in our ***** facility and generally has a 2-3 month lead time when our ***** facility can get parts and cores. Unfortunately, at this time we still have no ETA for this engine and feel that the best option for **************** is to request a refund from the supplier where he made his purchase.

      Customer response

      05/08/2023

At this time an engine still has not been procured, and we even gave the company more time to supply this engine. Their lead time was supposed to have been 2-3 months per their last response, so we decided to give them more time. It has now been almost 6 months, and the customer wants his engine, and there has been no more communications from the supplier or the Spartan. With all due respect this situation is giving my business a run around and making me look noncompliant. I have already spent much of my valuable time trying to come up with a solution and trying to work this out with the customer but he wants his engine and he wants Spartan held accountable. If I can call ****** and procure all of the parts to do this job, then why has spartan not been able to provide ** an engine?

      Business response

      05/15/2023

Again, we apologize for the delays in ******************** engine becoming available.  As indicated in our last correspondence, there was apparently a miscommunication at the time of purchase from his supplier regarding actual ETA as this should have been quoted with no ETA.  We do have a bit of good news though, as his engine did arrive from ***** last Thursday and just came out of inspection today.  ******************** engine will ship today from *************, ** on order number ******* and should arrive to him by weeks end.

      Customer response

      05/16/2023

I have reviewed the business response and accept this resolution. I am pleased to hear that the engine will be arriving this week, and Im sure the customer will be as well. I appreciate the update.

Purchased a refurbished rear differential for my 2007 Ford mustang GT purchased on 12/26/18 vehicle odometer 130,985 car was driven rarely under normal conditions as I'm a semi truck driver. After a year in storage I took the car out were it was driven to shop for electrical issues and spent 2 months for BCM module replacement. Driving the car home 2 miles the rear differential went out with a bang at 135,016 miles on July 2022. Spoke with Dana at LKQ sent him pictures of the differential to show the failure was an internal bolt holding a shaft that once the bolt broke the shaft slid out causing damage to pinion gear and ring gear... I was declined coverage as 6 months outside of warranty even though it only had 4k miles in 3.5 years. Had ford dealership handle the rebuilding requiring new carrier assembly ring and pinion gears bearings bushings and limited slip disks... total for the raxp224a was nearly 2100$ less than 4 years later I had to pay another 1600$ to rebuild the same rear end because of a internal part failure. For a rear end to last less than 4k miles is disturbing and even more had I not been a semi truck driver this car would have been driven more than 1x a month and the failure would have occurred inside the warranty you have a 3 yr 20k mile warranty I didn't even use 1/4th of the 20k and you declined my claim s/n rXXXXX

Business Response /* (1000, 11, 2022/11/01) */ Differentials have a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty. The warranty on this differential expired on 12/26/2021 regardless of mileage driven. Consumer Response /* (3000, 13, 2022/11/03) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Less than 4k miles and a catastrophic failure caused by a bolt failure not a wear and tear item but a manufacturers defect warranty are for pre mature failure of wearable parts not mechanical failures due to pore production ethics Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2022/11/04) */ We do apologize for the problem you had, but once again the warranty is based off time of 3 years. Anything outside of that time frame is no longer warrantable. Just to put it into prospective most rear axle rebuilders only carry a 12 month or 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labor. Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2022/11/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) 6 months oow with 3,999 miles and a defective part not linkable to any form of wear and tear you would think an exception would be made but as it stands I got nothing your failure as a company cost me 2k$ for your poor quality checks if it was a daily driver you would have eaten the cost but bc I'm a semi trucker only home 1 day a week that car saw 3,999 miles in 3.5 years you could have offered parts and I cover labor or could have covered labor while I buy parts something to show your sorry for your sub par quality controls

I ordered a remanufactured engine for my jeep from Spartan Engines thru Advanced Auto in December 2019. I installed it returned the core and got everything up and running. Two months in I began to have issues with oil leaking from the oil pressure sensor, it was replaced in February 2020. Then began to leak again and was replaced early March, and leaked again and was replaced again. Then four consecutive test where run on the oil pressure to diagnose the issue. It was found that the oil pressure was spiking over 100 psi and causing the failure. At this point the oil pump was replaced due to thinking that might be the issue and another oil sensor was installed in August 2021. It then failed again in November and started developing a misfire. More test were run and determined the oil pressure was still spiking and it was an internal issue. I contacted Advanced Auto about a replacement who then started contacting Spartan Engines to start a warranty claim. Spartan Engines then was in contact with the mechanic shop my Jeep was at. I was issued a claim number and a contact in December 2021. After which point Spartan Engines stopped responding. Since then there have been multiple calls and messages from myself, my mechanic and my local Advanced Auto without a single response from Spartan. So I now have a non-running daily driver and forced to replace the engine at my own expense.
