On June 19, I entered Karma Handicrafts in search of a dress for my girlfriend back in New York City. ***********************, the stores owner was behind the counter. I called my girlfriend using FaceTime and showed her several dresses. She only liked a red dress and I picked out her size (medium). I purchased the item on my debt card and told **** that I was returning to ******** and who I was buying the dress for. There was no return policy posted anywhere near the counter nor was I warned of any return policy.Once I arrived home, my girlfriend tried the dress on and it didn't fit her figure. It was tight in places and loose in others. Upon looking at the receipt I noticed at the bottom in small print it said returns were for "store credit only". I called the store and explained the situation but was told "they cannot return it". She said that I could return the dress back and they could send me another one. I explained it wasn't just the size but the cut of the dresses don't fit her body. We were happy to pick another one out but if she didn't like that one either, we would have to return it as well. We might be shipping dresses back and forth and it would quickly be more than the cost of the original dress. **** said she would talk to the manager and call me back.The next day I called again. I asked if the manager was there and she said no. I asked when the manager would be in and she said she didn't know. I asked if she would be in on Monday and she eventually said "I'm the only one who can help you. I am the owner". We went through it again and **** became very frustrated and said "I have never refunded anyone's money. She offered send a bunch of picture and one more dress but its not fair to be shipping things back and forth." I reminded her that there was no mention of her return policy. She said she was no longer willing to work with me and I could take her to court. Neither of us want to send dresses back and forth and she has left me no choice.
