    Pattern of Complaint:

Since January 2018 and to date, the BBB of Greater Houston received complaints and customer reviews that have exhibited the following pattern:

Consumer complaints and customer views have alleged that Margie Beegle Sales provides very poor customer service.  Consumers have alleged that the owner or staff will force them to leave for touching objects or for carrying a handbag that is deemed too large. Consistently in complaints filed with the BBB the consumers have alleged that the owner and staff become verbally abusive and yells at them in front of other customers.

In a recent July 2022 customer review, one consumer had the following happen to her and her daughter. The consumer did not stop and read the sign on the front door as they had followed a group in. As she stepped into the living room,  she heard someone call out, “You with the gold purse!” I turned and the woman manning the register, said, “You need to bring that here.” “Why?” “Can’t you read? It says on the front door, ‘No purses larger than this sign are allowed.” The consumer started to put her bag down on the table next to her when she heard a staff person shout toward my daughter, “Don’t touch those. They’re already sold!” Employee pointed to a “sold” sign taped to the wall. When her daughter said, “Oh sorry, I didn’t realize.” the employee said, “It’s not my fault you can’t read.” As they passed the, she hissed, “Entitled. Wretched. Ugly.” When consumer confronted her about what she heard, and asked, “Did you just call my daughter entitled, wretched, and ugly?” She gave me a snarling look and said, “No. I just spoke the truth.”

A customer received in August 2022, "My daughter and I went to an estate sale. I picked out a few items and asked my daughter to get a price. My daughter ask for the price from the woman at the register. The woman instructed my daughter to put the things on the table. I asked what the price was and was then informed we are buying the items because of an obscure sign on a distant wall! I informed the woman my daughter is disabled. She replied, “Why did you bring her here?”, stated in a rude, disrespectful tone. I couldn’t believe someone could be so degrading to a disabled person! I agree with the comments that this woman should NOT be allowed to treat others the way she does."

    Business response:

We run a family business and have for over 20 years.  Most of our clients are senior citizens and the money their sales raise is very important to them and our job is not an easy one and we do it very well.

We have 7 SIMPLE Rules for Shopping that are posted on our website, on the front door and throughout the sales.  We go over the rules with shoppers who many times understand the rules but do not wish to follow them--but that would not be fair for our clients (most of them who are senior citizens) or other shoppers. At no time are we rude but when a shopper will not follow the rules and will not respect the workers or other shoppers and their behavior is a detriment to the sale they are asked to leave.

We have 100's of people in line many times for 7-8 hours over a 2 day sale and we sell out every single weekend. This is because we care about ALL of our clients--the sellers and the buyers."

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE My mom and I are frequent estate sale shoppers, we love it and we go all over the Houston and surrounding areas. We know the rules but this experience was absolutely insane. Genuinely i never write reviews but this has to be said. The staff was so rude and difficult to work with. It sucked the fun out of finding treasures. While we were shopping a woman of color was getting upset for being treated poorly. At first, i was confused on what was going on but could see how unreasonable the staff was. All of a sudden we hear screaming from the worker (which I’m guessing is the owner of the estate sale company) at the woman, the woman kept saying how this is insane how disrespectful these people are and the lady was screaming at her to tell her to get out. Red flag #1. My mom and i had so much stuff we were getting, she had a 35$ pot on the hold table which normally at estate sales you can hold it and always have free range to decide if you don’t want it. Plus how would we walk around and hold it the whole time anyway. So she puts it back and i had my stuff to check out separately and she refused service to me and my mom because we “did not listen” and my mom put it back. I was trying to understand from her why i couldn’t get my belongings as i was separate from my mother and she wouldn’t look me in the eye and talking to the lady behind us. This is absolutely ridiculous. The attitude, the insane rules, have stripped the fun out of this estate sale. I know we are not going to be the only victims of being treated so poorly so just a warning to not even waste your time. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!
