Purchased a platinum engagement ring $10k in January 2020. W/in two months the ring began to lose shape and catastrophically "squished" April 2020. When taken back for an explanation, the salesperson ********* ** ******* was very professional. But the jeweler's wife commented on my irresponsibility and explained how it had to be my fault it was broken, claiming I must have been clapping my hands and not realizing it, holding the steering wheel too aggressively, etc. I can't wear the ring at work, so this ring was worn only for a few hours each week and should not have failed as it did. The ******** had it reformed and replaced the two missing band stones. Over the next months the band began to lose shape again. Upon returning the store for it to be looked at, the jewelers' wife had taken over as the counter salesperson while her ******** was on maternity. She denied that it looked out of round and didn't offer to have the jeweler look at or fix it. I took it to another jeweler that day and they agreed it was very obviously out of shape and hammered it back. This reoccurred several times (3-4) between April 2020 and November 2021. All other jewelers said the degree of damage wasn't normal for platinum and suggested that although you are not supposed to re-use melted-down platinum it was likely the issue with my "softer" than normal ring. I set an appointment with the jeweler directly for a last meeting 1/28/22 to hear from him, but he left to the back of the store as I arrived and the jewelers' wife intercepted me. She again said the damage had to be my fault, challenged me to take it elsewhere and "show her in 2 years how it held up," refused to assess w/ jeweler. She admitted that other customers come back in with platinum issues. When I said I be resetting, she told me she'd melt down and give me the platinum. I pointed out that melting down platinum was the root of my complaint and she quickly retracted it and claimed she hadn’t said that. Reset cost $1.2k.
