I fall for it every time. As soon as Houston Garden Centers advertise 1/2 off EVERYTHING, it always turns out that what I want to buy is not. EVERY TIME. Without exception. I’ve finally realized that they change the signs in front of most of their plants as being on” special”, but still carrying the same prices they’ve been all season. I suppose the signs NOT designated as “special” MAY be half off, but might not be, either. It is a total waste of time and frustrating as hell. It’s only at the end of the season, when everything is on its last leg or dead, that you can get real markdowns. Also, their plants used to be reasonably priced. Not so any more! The employees at the two locations * **** ** ******** ** *** ***** *** *******. That’s ok! I totally understand! But, they are consistently rude and unhelpful and ignore you when you seek their help. I know this is not the case everywhere, but this is what I’ve experienced every spring/ summer. I’ve shopped HGCs for decades- ever hopeful and optimistic that things will improve. I LOVE gardening and this Texas heat is really challenging for my shrubs and plants. I need new stock regularly. Add in the drought periods that begin the middle of summer until late fall, it’s a huge investment! Don’t even get me started on the no return/ refund policy! What decent garden shop practices that? I know this won’t cause any changes in how HGC runs their business. They are not going to. I AM DONE. ( finally!}.

Went into the springs/woodland location and saw they had a 1/2 off sign sitting infront of the papaya trees and went through and found the one I wanted I took it to the front to pay and the lady scanned it and said this is not one of the 1/2 off sale items and I told her that there was a sign from them saying it was 1/2 off and 3 of the works said well it was a customer and another said it was a worker and the other one said it did not matter where the sign was she was not going to honor it and if I had a problem with it I could make a phone call. I walked out with nothing even though I was wanting to buy other plants. This is not the first time this has happened at this same store it seems as if they are just trying to make an extra buck!

Horrible experience. The workers don’t help; sales are deceiving and worthless! Want to get screwed come here for it!

The locations have no valid phone numbers. I called 3 locations followed by the corporate office. Location numbers rolled to full voicemail or not in service. When I called the corporate office today, I was told sites don't have phones. I asked why the website lists phone numbers for each location if customers can't utilize. I was told the stores don't have time to answer phones.

No herb plants at a GARDEN center. NO HERB PLANTS at a GARDEN center! Even the grocery stores have herb plants. And the staff - does NOT matter what location - are noncommunicative and unhelpful. They don't want you to talk to them or they might have to actually work for a living. Dont waste your time with this place. Go to **** ***** or *****.

AT APPROX 10:40 AM ON 1APR24 I VISITED THIS LOCATION TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE PRICE OF SOD. I ENTERED THROUGH THE FRONT WHERE 3 EMPLOYEES, ONE OF WHICH I FOUND OUT WAS A MANAGER AND ONE CUSTOMER WERE STANDING AT THE REGISTER ASSISTING A CUSTOMER WITH A QUESTION. I STOOD AND WAITED FOR ABOUT 3 TO 5 MINUTES AND WAS NEVER GREETED OR ACKNOWLEDGED SO, AFTER THE MANAGER LEFT I REQUESTED THE ATTENTION OF THE TWO LADIES AT THE REGISTER AND ASKED IF THEY SPOKE ENGLISH THEY POINTED TO THE GENTLEMAN WHO HAD JUST LEFT SO, I WALKED BEHIND HIM TRYING TO VERBALLY GET HIS ATTENTION BUTM HE KEPT WALKING AND WENT INTO THE BUILDING LOCATED BEHIND THE PLANTS. I THEN CALLED AND SPOKE WITH JENNIFER AT 10:53 FOR 5MIN AND 26 SECONDS. SHE STATED THAT THERE IS SIGNAGE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE PROPERTY SIGNIFYING THE PRICING OF SOD EVEN THOUGH I EXPLAINED MY EXPERIENCE. WHEN I INFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS ONLY SIGNAGE STATING THAT SOD IS AVAILABLE EVERY THURSDAY AND NOT THE PRICE AND INFORMED HER I WOULD SEND A PICTURE SHE STATED THEY HAD JUST RECEIVED PICTURES OF ALL PROPERTIES RECENTLY AND ARGUED THAT I DID NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE SIGNAGE. SHE SHOWED NO CONCERN ABOUT WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED WITH THIS LOCATION. THIS IS DISHEARTENING SINCE I ONLY VISIT THIS LOCATION FOR MY GARDENING NEEDS.

I went in to purchase a qt sized flowering plant for $1.99. In this case a small begonia. I went into the store on Beltway 8 and Vista Rd in Pasadena. Their cashier who wouldn't give me her name and another employee named Walter tried to insist the plant I was trying to purchase was one of their more expensive ones. They refused to go out to the location of the plants which was just a few feet from the side door. So I went and took a picture and showed it to them and they proceeded to tell me it wasn't the same even though it clearly was. Everyone should be very careful and watch the prices they ring up should they choose to shop here.

I bought three orange trees from the Sugarland store yesterday. The store signs and website ads are clearly marked $59.99 for 5 gallon citrus trees. Also, there was absolutely no one there who spoke English and could answer any questions that I had about the plants. When I got home I realized that the buckets were not 5 gallons. I looked at the tag on the bucket and it showed that the buckets were 3.5 gallons. I started reading reviews for Houston Garden Centers and there are many, many terrible reviews. After calling several nonworking phone numbers I found a number here at the BBB. I called and spoke with a lady who first tried to tell me that the buckets are trade buckets and are considered 5 gallon buckets. I told her they were not 5 gallon buckets. She then said the signs were incorrect and would be corrected. I told her their website ads also show 5 gallon buckets for $59. She got mad and hung up on me. I called right back and asked to speak with a manager. She said that would be Kim Hooper, the lady on the commercials, but she wasn’t available. She sent me to her voice message. It is too bad that they are not an honest and reputable company.

There was not one person on the entire property that spoke English. We could not resolve the problem even when we checked out the person could not count back money and minors unable to communicate with us. We were there for over an hour, waiting on someone that worked there that spoke English still was unable to, find out anything till the next day when I called the corporate office and they told me there was no warranty our guarantees on any of their plants and what we got was what we got, and not to call them again

I bought a $26 bottle of squirrel repellant. I took it to the parking lot. Just for the heck of it, I searched on ******* ***** They had, same product, same brand, same size for $16.98. I walked back in with my receipt. They would not refund me my money because I had walked away from tent area. What a horrible business policy. NEVER, EVER BE BACK HERE!!!!
