Purchased new roof, was installed. Selling home 6 months later and inspection showed we need a new roof. Called, emailed and texted for 3 weeks now and barely get a response. Wont send anyone out to inspect it, blamed new solar panels, but solar co sent someone out to inspect it. Not solar related. Closing is in 3 days and still no call back. They say they will call and never do. Wont give me managers name due to privacy nor a phone number to contact them. All I get is someone will contact you and never does. Not even a year old and I have two different inspectors and solar co saying we need a new roof after 6 months.Business Response

The customer is being dishonest. Please see the inspection report stating minimal roofing damage. The damage to the shingles is minimal but the damage was caused by the solar companies solar install post roof installation. We let the customer know the cost would be $250 to fix the ripped shingles from the solar panel install and that we would seal any exposed nail heads under her roofing warranty at no cost even though per our contract all roofs that have been worked on by other contractors voids their roofing warranty. Unfortunately the install of the solar panels required many contractors to walk all over the roof and required screws to be placed all around the roofing area with the many solar panels installed voiding the warranty. Please also see attached all emails where the customer never responded, they are being dishonest about not being contacted also. The customer is trying to get something for free and the complaint filed is actually slanderous as the information provided to the BBB is absolutely fabricated. I have been unable to attach documents to this file, but will be happy to forward them to an email.Initial Complaint

On 5/31/2024, I signed a contract with Heritage Construction (Heritage) to replace the roof and install a 35-watt Attic Breeze solar fan. On 6/12, the roof was replaced, but the solar fan was not installed. I've sent emails, called their ***************** and left a detailed message, and submitted an online request to get the solar fan installed. ************** replied via email on 6/21: "I'll be reaching out to you with a day this week that the crew can come back out to install it!" I followed up with emails to also get the certificate of installation sent to my former and new insurance companies. *************************, project manager emailed me for the insurance form. I told her ***** had verbally informed me before the contract was signed that Heritage would take care of submitting the certificate of installation to both insurance companies. I submitted the contact names, phone numbers, email addresses, policy numbers, claim number for both insurance companies to *************************, **************, and ******************************* via email on 6/24.Business Response

All items have been provided to the H/O and Attic Breeze solar fan has already been installed. Our schedule for all installations is about 3 weeks out at this time and we had to wait for crew to become available.Customer Answer

9/21-9/24 Several problems have been pointed out that need to be addressed to finish this job. Most of the issues I had were addressed on 9/24 but several remain. First, the nails that were used on the flashing of the Sun Tunnel must be removed and the holes sealed with a rubber flashing tape under where the flashing of the tunnel was penetrated. Second the roof is not straight; the lines of the roof curve as shown in the picture. Finally, the debris field left is unacceptable and must be cleaned up better. I was promised twice that someone would come to do that; it has not happened. I have already spent a couple of hours cleaning up the worst of the mess. What's worse, is I was told I must pay for the rest of the job today without having these concerns satisfied first. I have no faith left in my contact, and will not pay the balance until they "make sure that the job is done to your (i.e,, my) specifications."Customer Answer

Our 2 chineys for pur water heaters were knocked off and there the water heaters have been running for a month with no chiney attached. The inspection was done after the roof was installed on May 19th and i was told everything passed inspection. Turns out my chiney was crooked and neither if the water heater chimneys were aligned allowing them to both vent into the attic directly next to my 2year old sons room. Its been a month with several delays and still the company has failed to fix their damages. I want it fixed now.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
On 5/11/2023 we went under contract to have Heritage fix our roof. They have damaged and incorrectly installed the vents leading from the two water heaters in the attic. We have previously submitted a complaint through BBB to have this fixed. They sent out people who were not properly trained to fix this issue and told us it was corrected. Today, we had our water heaters serviced and we're told by ASAP Plumbing that the vents were not installed correctly and we have possible carbon monoxide gas leaking into our home and it poses a risk to our kids. We need Heritage to send a Professional to our home to properly fix this issue. The repair would cost us nearly $900 out of pocket. It is covered under our warranty with them but they have not responded to our inquiry.

The homeowner has not been in contact with our corporate office regarding any warranty issues since post installation of the roof. Since receiving this complaint, our V.P. of Sales has been in contact with the homeowner and will be rectifying any issues that may be associated with the actual install of the roof. We will also be contacting the customer's plumber to see what they believe the issue is. The work completed by the plumbing company was for aged equ9piment.Initial Complaint

Heritage Construction repaired my roof following a hailstorm in April 2021. In January of 2022, I notified them that the roof was leaking. I paid them a $250 deposit in February to come and fix the leak. Heritage told me it was fixed and refunded my deposit. In September 2022 I contacted Heritage again to tell them the roof was still leaking. They told me they applied a sealant on Sept 12, although nobody came into my house to verify the location of the leak, or into the attic to determine where the water was coming in. Because water was repeatedly coming through my bathroom ceiling, it became water damaged and I asked Heritage to fix it. At this point, (Oct 2022) Heritage claimed the roof had magically started leaking and blamed it on rodent damage. Heritage told me I needed to provide evidence of improper installation for them to take any responsibility for the leak. In December, after having a different contractor inspect the damage, I informed Heritage that it was in fact water damage from a leaky roof. Heritage told me they would not fix it or reimburse me for the expense. I have continued to notify Heritage each time water comes through the roof after it rains. They have claimed to have sent a roofer several times, but nobody has come into my house or asked where the water is coming in.Business Response

This homeowner's warranty was voided in June, 2021 as they had other roofers and contractors working on their roof. We did, however, send a roofer out in February, 2022 and sealed up all flashings. The issue with the home is that it has pre-existing flashing and structure issues which were not included in the insurance or contract that she signed with us to repair. We only replaced the roof. She had other contractors working on these issues, and we are not responsible for other contractors work.Customer Answer

We had our roof replaced and paid for via our insurance claim in Sept 2022. Our roof started leaking 10/17 and so we called *****, our Project Manager from Heritage Construction. We spoke with ***** on 10/17, 10/28, 11/11, 11/19, and 11/29 about fixing this issue. A worker came out to find the leak 3 separate times, each a different person, saying they fixed it, but they never did. Every storm the wall got more wet. The leak was fixed at the end of November. The wall still needed repair. Our wall in our living room has 3 areas of water damage that needs to be repaired. The area that was most soaked is now growing mold. At the end of November ***** brought ******************************* from Above Quality ****************** Experts. ***** stood in my living room with ***** and told him that the area at the top of the ceiling needed to be cut out and replaced and that the entire wall and ceiling would need to be repainted to match otherwise you would see the ************. ***** said he would use a green paint from *******************************, low VOC. The other 2 areas could be sprayed and painted over since there was no mold. My daughter has asthma and I asked for all of the water damage to be removed so there would not be a chance of further issues with mold and the chemicals they want to use with the Kilz spray. ***** assured me that they would be able to remove the damaged wall and they would call me in a week to schedule repairs. We received an email on 12/21 stating they would only repaint that there was no drywall damage. We went back and forth on email and the *** was brought into the thread and basically said they were not repairing the wall, only painting and that is it. This is absurd. They caused damaged to my home and refuse to repair it the correct way. Now, I do not want them in my home. I do not trust they will do the job correctly. I want to get a second and third opinion, hire my own contractor to fix it correctly, and they reimburse me or pay the contractor directly.Business Response

We have since met with the customer. The home does not have mold and only needs paint, the drywall and texture does not need replacement. The homeowner will be speaking to his wife about having the wall where the leak occurred to be painted only. We are awaiting the customer's final reply back and we will get the paint done for them on the one wall where the leak occurred.Initial Complaint

In 2014 Heritage Construction completed a roofing job paid for by my home insurance the job covered indwelling damage to my property and a lifetime warranty on the roof work. the invoice provided by Heritage covered replacement of the shingles and vents on the home. the contractor failed to re install the metal mesh (screen) that goes UNDER the ventilation not over, this would mean going into the attic to replace the screen that was removed during installation. As of two weeks ago I heard scratching in my attic and called out pest control to discover, the mesh was not returned to its proper place when the new vents were installed. this poor quality of work has fostered a rodent problem in my attic. After contacting Heritage 5 times, I received an email indicating this was not their problem, "We do not install mesh over vents, please contact pest control" I am currently seeking proper installation of the mesh that was removed from my ventilation when the installed the new roof and recovery of any damages due to pest in my attic.Business Response

These accusations are unfounded and disputed. This roof was installed 8 years ago and the customer has never made us aware of any complaint until recently. Now after they have incurred rodent damage (8 YEARS later) they have created this story in an attempt to shift responsibility. Even if they did have rodent barriers installed in the old accessories the new accessories do not come with rodent barriers and we are not a pest control company. The customer should have contacted their pest control company to rodent proof their new roof system if they have an issue with rodents. ******* **** homes per year and have never once been asked to perform the work of a licensed pest control company and we certainly would have not committed to that with this customer.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: The builder/contractor FAILED TO COMPLETE a job CORRECTLY. which has resulted to another problem of pest. Please be advised I do not live nor do I frequent my attic or roof,, hence the only way I would be aware is via a problem. the problem was assessed to learn Heritage Construction DID NOT RETURN THE **** TRAPS when replacing the vents on my roof install. As military/ Veteran families, we are advised to report poor quality of work where builders do not complete work properly so that other Veteran and military are aware of this type of work. Finally, the builder has a lifetime warranty on the roof work, hence the reason I am asking that Vent traps are placed as part of the resolution as so they should have been placed in September 2014 when the work was done.

Please see the attached final invoice for **************** roof which we completed in September, 2014. We were not contracted to do this work. This type of works needs to be performed by a licensed pest control company. We only replaced the vents on her roof which has nothing to do with vent traps. Those need to be replaced by a pest control company. We do not do this type or work, nor have we have we ever on ANY roof we have installed since we started our business over 10 years ago. We do have a lifetime workmanship warranty on the **** itself for a leak which occurs due to faulty workmanship but not due to rodents, or vent traps that should have been installed by a pest control company. Thank you.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Sending an invoice does not void the contract: A lifetime warranty on the roof work. The Vents were NOT installed properly. I am asking for them to complete their work.
