On 09/16/2023 I noticed my check engine light was on in my GMC Terrain. I went to ********** ********* for a free code check and it pulled a code of P2440. This code is for the Secondary Fuel Injector Pump or Valve. ********** is not an automotive repair facility so they were not able to tell me which one was not working. I opted to take my vehicle to a certified Automotive Repair Facility. I went online the same day and scheduled an appointment for 09/19/2023. It was the first available appointment they had. When I dropped my car off, they indicated they indicated that they were shorthanded and would not be able to look at my car until the following day. On 09/20/2023 they sent over a report stating that the Secondary Valves needed to be replaced and that I needed a new battery. They stated on the report that when commanded, the secondary air pump was coming on and working correctly. The total cost to replace the battery and two secondary air valves would be $2062.41. I approved the work to be done and was informed that they would be closing for a day due to a death of a team members family. On. 09/22/2023, Christian Brother's Automotive called and left a message that my car was fixed and ready to be picked up. I went that evening and got it. Less than 24 hours later the check engine light came back on. I tried calling Christian Brother's Automotive several times on 09/23/2023 with no answer or way to leave a message. Later I found out they were closed on Saturdays, so I took my car back to ********** on 09/23/2023 to have them perform another code check. They gave me a printout showing that it was still coding the same thing that it had before I paid Christian Brother's to fix it. I was finally able to contact someone at Christian Brother's on 09/25/2023 to let them know my car was doing the same thing. They told me to bring it back in and they would fix it. They called me the same day and said that it must have been an old code from debris left in the line from when they replaced the valves. They said that the check engine light was cleared, and that the car was running like it is supposed to. On the evening of 09/26/2023, the check engine light came on again. I called Christian Brother's Automotive the following morning and they asked me to bring my car by for them to do another code check on it. When I got there, they did the code check and said it was the same code as it had been originally. I told them I could not leave the car that day because I was on my way to work when they asked for me to bring it in. We agreed on Monday, 10/02/2023 for them to fix it. They called me and told me they needed to replace the Secondary Pump and it would be an additional $800. When I went back to Christian Brother's Automotive to pick up my car, I asked to speak to the manager. I requested a printout of the codes and the manager said they did not have the ability to do that. When I said yes you do, the man that works the front desk said he knew how to do it. They went and spoke to the mechanic for a minute and returned with the printout. The printout clearly stated that the secondary air injection cut off valves failed, which is what I paid them to fix on 09/22/2023. There is no mention of the pump failing on any of their paperwork, but that is what they are claiming is wrong now. Whether they guessed wrong, installed a faulty part or didn't actually perform the work, I am out over $2000 for car repairs that was supposed to fix my car and clear the check engine light. I did not bring my car in for them to just guess what's wrong, however that is how it appeared to be. They are supposed to be the professionals. The manager offered no resolution, in fact I felt that he was being deceitful when I asked for the printout of the codes on my car. How would a manager not know that he can print out the codes of a car? It is on their estimates that they send out to the customer! Why charge $129.95 to test and inspect the vehicle if you are still unable to diagnose it properly? What I originally brought my car into Christian Brother's Automotive to be fixed is still the problem after paying them $2062.41 less the cost of the battery and install of the battery which was $213.33.
