On 4-5-23 I had an insurance claim to repair the house. I had called DTI Construction for an estimate on the repairs. He had said that he could get everything fixed and that it would take 60 days to complete. He was to repair all the baseboards, trimming, painting, carpet and flooring throughout the whole house. All the cabinets, fixtures and countertops in the kitchen were to be replaced. In the master bath he was to redo walls and put new flooring, paint and new vanity and lighting. All the 3 bedrooms and living room need to repair walls, paint, carpet. On 6-14-2023 I signed contract so DTI construction could start. In 7-6-23 I gave him $30,000 to order all the kitchen cabinets, carpet and other materials. Then the 2nd month came around and he wanted more money, he said he was at his halfway point and needed $14430. To get more materials and to pay his workers but at this time he just keeps telling me cabinets and carpet is still coming but there is still other stuff in the house that needs to be complete. We are now at the end of the 2nd month and when the i asks how much longer to finish up he said it would take another 30 days. He had then asked for a supplemental payment for more paint but the bank had the money on hold and I was unable to pay him at that time. He did send somebody out to finish up some paneling. And these workers made me aware that he hadnt paid any of the other people that came out to our house so thats why stuff wasnt getting completed. At this point he has less communication me and sends the insurance an email that he was walking away from the job. He didnt install the kitchen cabinets and countertops and carpet that we had already paid him to install in the house. I would like to get a refund for carpet and cabinets and countertop or if he can give me the items he said he ordered. The insurance has the remainder funds on hold until the job is complete. Now I have to pay out of my pocket to complete what he should have gotten done.

      Business response

We were compensated for work performed up to the point of breach of contract due to the customers husbands behavior towards our sub contractors. Prior to the start of the project, we had turned in our estimate to the customers insurance and were asked to lower it to fit the budget restrictions and to accommodate what the customers insurance was only willing to pay. Further more we were not compensated for certain work performed at the customers home, all materials have been returned to the supply companies, the customers insurance company was notified of our withdrawal from the project. Customer and insurance have over 30k left in escrow to hire another contractor and complete the work.
