I purchased a roast at United Supermarket in Pampa, TX on Thursday, Oct. 20. I went to cook it the next day and saw that it had a lot of black dirt all over it, which was bad enough, but then saw that under the sticker they placed on it, there was a very dark brown rotten spot. I called United and spoke with the manager on duty, *****, and she refused to refund it. She told me that "the meat manager said the meat turns brown where the sticker has been from the light hitting it". I have been alive for almost 50 years, and in all those years, I have never seen meat change colors from a sticker. Meat turns brown because of oxidation and rancidity. I don't appreciate the lies and shadiness and refusal to refund this. As expensive as groceries are this year (even higher at greedy United), I cannot afford to throw $17 into the garbage. In fact, I hardly ever eat meat because of prices lately, and this is the first time I have spent this much in 2 years. I can't afford to be out money because this store decided to slap a sticker over a rotten spot and sell it and now refuses to refund me for THEIR laziness and dishonesty. I do not feel comfortable consuming this meat and should not have to pay for rotten meat. This is wrong on every level. I want the refund. I am putting this meat in my freezer to keep because I am filing complaints also with the FDA and health department, and also filing a fraud complaint and calling local TV stations to warn others about their behavior and unsafe practices. This is not the first time I have had problems with the meat at this store. It is an ongoing issue and the management and corporate office refuse to make any corrections. But I will NOT pay for rotten meat. They are nothing but thieves.
