I had lab work done through this company 6/1/22. It was processed through my insurance that same month. I received a bill for $196.61 on 4/26/23. When I called to inquire about the notice they said they are able to bill you up to three years from the date of service! They claimed that they had emailed and mailed the bill previously but I never saw anything from them until now. It's been so long I don't even have the same insurance company or doctor! Getting billed almost a year after the service seems shady. I'm still reluctant to pay it until I do some digging to see if they had already been paid.

I received a phone call from Avero to pay a bill for lab services I had done at one of my doctor's office. I had no details on the bill nor had I received one in email or mail at this point. I tried calling back but wasn't able to get through to anyone anytime I called. I finally received the actual bill in the mail, at this point it was a final notice to pay. I tried to pay the bill but the website said I needed an access code. The bill they sent me did not have an access code so I would call in and leave messages asking for this number. I received a few voicemails from Lisa with the Customer Care team but never received the access number. Every time I called back, no one answered. I finally got through to Sheila today who admitted that the bills were not clear and told me that the access number was the ticket number with a dash in a certain spot. When I asked a question for clarification, she repeated what she said in a condescending tone and then informed me that I was likely unable to pay my bill due to it being in collections. I told her that I was frustrated with this because I had been asking for this number every time I called. She kept interrupting me and was incredibly rude so I told her she could transfer me to a supervisor to which she told me that they didn't have supervisors. Later on she told me there wasn't a supervisor on at that time. She also told me that a supervisor wouldn't even call me back. She did give me a number to voice a complaint of how my account was handled. When I called that number, it went to the collections agency which is not helpful in this situation. I tried to contact them through their website and received an error message.

Today (1/20/2022) I got a bill for $100.00 from Avero for a FREE? Covid 19 test on 9/11/2021. This test was done through CarePortMD Urgent Care Plus at a local grocery store, which had been recommended through the state of Delaware. (delaware.gov) "Accepts insurance and Cares Act for uninsured patrons. Nasal Swab (into the nose)." At testing time THERE WAS NO NOTICE CONCERNING WHAT DIAGNOSTIC COMPANY WOULD BE USED, NOR THAT THERE WOULD BE A FEE. I don't remember if anyone asked for my insurance information at the time. My first billing suspicion was the address wasn't my usual address. Secondly, the verbiage, "Your healthcare provider ordered laboratory testing ..." WHAT healthcare provider? I had gone there on my own! Nevertheless, I called Avero to let someone know about the unfair billing practices - but gave them the insurance information anyway. As of now, I don't know if insurance will pay or not.
