If I could change electric companies I would. I have had MVEC for over 7 years. Same home. I inadvertently forgot to make my payment and they disconnected the light. I went online made the payment for the amount requested. 2 hours later we still did not have power. I called the office to see if there was another fee pending. The young man advised that a $45 reconnect fee was due plus a $271 deposit...... He said there is a new system that was integrated 2 years ago and that is what has been initiated. I asked if this was going to be how MVEC will handle accounts this point forward? I asked if a deposit will be requested every time power is disconnected due to non payment. He said no, just this time because that is what the system is requesting. I was asking for specifics as to how or why I would need to make another deposit if my electricity account had not been terminated. He advised something to the effect of being a month to month account. We have been with MVEC for seven years and have never been on a contract because we can't sign up with any other company due to some boggus restriction. He still could not explain the purpose of the deposit..... MAGIC VALLEY owes the people an explanation directly... They should not hide behind their staff to just try to collect extra money without fully comprehending and communicating the reason.

      Getting raped by MVEC with there bogus fees and bad accounting on my bill. Lightning struck my temporary meter pole and they never came out to disconnect me until 4 days later after I called to report the incident Then decided to charge me a tampering fee in the meter that they forgot to put there lockout tag on and then was out of power the whole month of oct but still have a bill of 100+$ pending. Seriously someone needs to see what’s up with these people. * ***** **** ******* * ****** ***** ****** ******** ********* **** ***** *** ********* ****** **** **** ******** ******** ** *** ****** **** ******** *** ***** ******** *** ***** ***** *** ***** *** **** *** **** ******* ********** ******* ** ** ********* *** ** ******* **** **** *** ****** ****** *** ***** * ****** ** **** ***** * ***** **** ** ***** ** **** ****** * **** ** ***** **** ** *** ******* ** ***** ***** ** ** ***** ***** ****** *** **** *** ******** **** **** *** ******* ******** **** ********* *********** ** ****** *** ****** **** ** *** * *** *** ** **** *** **** *** *** **** *** ******** ***** ****** *** ***** **** ****** ** **** *** *** ******* ** **** ***** *** **** **** ** *** **** ******* *** ******** ****** ****** ** ** *** ****** *****

Worst light company in the whole valley, they are the only electric company option in the 78599 area and for that we decided to move as soon as we can sell our home. Absolutely the worst fees and deposit rates too. We had to pay $400 deposit plus a reconnection fee of $100 after my husband lost his job due to lay off and we had to pay one week after the due date after getting an extension.

Es ridículo el cobro de deposito y aparte el cobro por el viaje . Yo entiendo que tiene que haber algún cobro por pago atrasado pero de 300 dollares por deposito es una cantidad exagerada más 100 por viaje es ridículo...

Our Magic Valley bill is due the 28th of every month. They disconnected services over an error of .17 cents not even sending the disconnect notice. There is no grace period or a balance to roll forward. The second instance just happened and they were kind enough to send a disconnect notice this time for .02 cents but there was no error this time. Magic valley misapplied my payment and sent a disconnect notice due by 11th 13 days later. I am astounded that they will disconnect customers over cents. $100's of dollars understandable but to not have the ability to roll over cents is ridiculous. Magic valley being a monopoly in cities is a horrible idea. We have no choice but to deal with electric provider. Magic valley expects the utmost accuracy then, giving their customers 13day after a bill is due to correct issues. Then the same standard should be held against them. They need to be held accountable for how they treat their customers over CENTS owed.

Regarding this matter, we ended up putting all the member’s accounts on group billing. Previously each account was being billed separately, so when a payment was sent in, those funds weren’t being distributed amongst all accounts. Some accounts would end up having a credit while others would have a balance. The issue has been resolved and the member has been advised to contact our Member Services Manager directly if she has any issues with her account in the future.

Power outages in my area every week and with a newborn they’re looking for a lawsuit to happen. It’s always our are and not anywhere else in Edinburg. Los Lagos to be exact. If there was another company I’d def use another one. It is hot in my house to have a newborn in.

Mr. *****, Regarding your concern on outages in your area, the most recent outage that you are referring to was caused by a vehicle accident on Wisconsin Rd. MVEC was informed by Texas DPS at approximately 4:00 am of a vehicle accident involving one of our poles. MVEC crews arrived on scene approximately an hour later and were able to restore power once troopers allowed us to do so. Unfortunately vehicle accidents involving utilities poles is a common occurrence, which is why MVEC crews are on call to restore power when needed.

I’d give MVEC 0 stars because they don’t even deserve the 1! Unfortunately, they are the only provider available in our area and because of that they take advantage of customers! We set up autopay and they cut off our power for “late payment”. How could it be late if we are enrolled in autopay?! Called customer service and they wanted us to pay the reconnection fee for THEIR mistake! This company is an absolute disgrace and the way they take advantage of customers is disgusting.

Absolutely ridiculous “drive out fee” for disconnecting your service if you’re 1 day late. $150 dollars for being a day late. This is predatory against people with low income. How can they charge $150 for sending someone to turn your light off and they won’t reconnect until you pay it. Holy cow is that absolutely disgusting and infuriating. They are the only option you have in the area you live and they know it, so they charge whatever they want.

Magic Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. Response

      12/14/2021

It is MVEC’s policy to charge a trip fee when a member is disconnected for nonpayment. The trip fee covers the cost associated with the disconnect process, from generating an order to physically driving out to a member’s residence to reconnect. If a member pays the outstanding balance prior to 3:00 pm, then a $100 trip fee is assessed onto the account. If the member pays after 3:00 pm, MVEC assessed a $150 trip fee onto the member’s account since the reconnect will happen after normal working hours. I hope this explanation helps in clarifying our process when dealing with disconnections. If you may have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

this is in regards to ******* ******* checks MVEC sends out on a yearly basis. I did not receive my check last year. When I called last year I was told it was a computer problem, it was being fixed. I kept calling this year and was told repeatedly it was being fixed. Now one year later I still do not have last years check, neither this year's. I called again recently and was told the same story, it is being fixed! what happens to this money? Is this legal? is MVEC audited by anyone?? anybody else with this problem needs to speak up also. my rating for this is 0
