I have a home warranty through First American Home Warranty. I called in a claim on my water heater. It was leaking and could no longer be used. First American Home Warranty set me up with a contractor at A-1 Rapid Rooter Plumbing in *******, **. I paid First American Home Warranty my service call amount. A-1 came out the very next day, which I was very happy with them for coming so quickly. They told me the water heater needed to be replaced, but there were going to be extra charges because they had to do a water mod, which was NOT done, and a vent mod, which was NOT done and a charge to dispose of the old water heater. All of these things were covered on my home warranty. I read it in my booklet from First American Home Warranty, as it tells you what is covered and what is not. A-1 charged me $300 to put silver tape on my vent in various places!!!! There are not any holes or anything wrong with that vent, so they left that vent there, but claimed they made modifications to it. Does silver tape cost $300? They did put new lead pipes that feeds the water into the water heater, but that does NOT cost $300 either. And, those parts are covered through my home warranty. This company took advantage of a housewife, which is ME while my husband was at work. These kind of contractors need to be shut down or have to give me back a refund of $300. They scammed me and lied to me. They did not replace anything except the lead pipes and water heater. The lead pipes were not broken or torn in any way and they did NOT have to replace them. I would be willing to pay for those, but they are covered by my home warranty. I could have bought my own water heater and my husband could have installed it himself for this amount of money.Business response

Yes the water heater was replaced and there was none coverages to the customer the non-coverages were explain to her everything that she paid for the noncoverage it was done she agreed and she paid water heater was installed now she has hot water.. she paid for water heater modifications and vent modification and disposal. Those were throughly explain. I do not believe we should give her a refund. we did not take advantage those were non coverages first American does not cover and explained to her and she agreed to pay. And if she would of bough her own heater they cost 600.or more So home warranty is a better option but they do not cover everything thank you

I am rejecting this response because: I should at least be refunded some of the $300. What you are saying my home warranty did not cover does not cost $300. I do not want this to happen to anyone else. There is no way I can see if you guys have done this to other people.

I reject your rejection also All warranties do not cover everything. You should contact fa warranty and they can also explain the non coverages. ThanksCustomer response

I am rejecting this response because: I have pictures of the vent that you did not replace. You only put silver tape on it in various places. Is that what you are calling a modification? If you are claiming that the lead pipes that feed the water into the water heater is an extra charge because they are not covered, that is incorrect. My Home Warranty book plainly states the only things not covered by them is, holding or storage tanks, flues and vents, fuel storage tanks and solar equipment. You did NOT replace the vent as you can see the water marks around the entire vent, which tells everyone that you did not replace it.

Leak never stopped and we called the technician again they set an appointment and never showed, it happened 5 times that the tech is no show. Called the manager who said they can't do anything and we should keep calling the technician. Now technician is not answering our calls.Business response
