My wife and I bought this Highland homes in 2015. We had a lot of issues with the quality of the homes including substandard materials and workmanship. For example, I have to replace 1/3 of the hardware in the kitchen cabinets within the first 24 months because I was told that it was not in the warranty. One of the more serious incidents was the flood of our house due to a nail in the pipe during construction. The issue was eventually resolved but at a price of mental and physical distress and inconveniences. Before the pandemic, a concrete cover from the side of the house fell down. I called Highland and the inspector told me that it was not structural. Our master bedroom now has cracks on three sides of the wall. They had cracks right after we moved in but were covered with more paint. The cracks are not wide enough (ie 1 inch) to be considered as structural damage. It is however astounding to have that many problems for a home that is less than 10 years.

My wife and I entered into a sales agreement with Highland Homes for a ****** (Plan "A") in *******, *****, in May 2023. We paid $15,000 in ******* money and an additional $12,907 in upgrade deposits. During construction, we raised concerns about framing issues and visible gaps between studs. Despite assurances, these problems were not addressed. Our pre-drywall inspection in September 2023 revealed numerous issues with framing, exterior sealing, windows, and electrical components. The closing date, originally set for January 19, ****, was moved up to December 22, 2023, by the builder. Uncomfortable with closing without assurance of corrections from the inspection, we discovered concerns such as windows with excessive silicone sealant, indicating non-OEM repairs that could void the warranty. Incorrect sloping caused soil moisture retention issues, and narrow 24" bathroom doors posed challenges for elderly residents or guests with mobility aids.We were told wider doors should have been requested during our pre-construction meeting, but this was never presented as an option in wirting or verbally. We never were provided with blueprints either, so the small doors came as a shock. The thermostat was locked to where it could not be set below 72F, and we were advised to run the bathroom vent fan for 20 minutes after each shower. When we expressed discomfort with the early closing date due to the pending VA loan appraisal, we were threatened with default if we didn't close on 12/22/2023. They then placed the home for sale and sold it to another buyer for at least $13,000 less than they were going to charge us.Facing escalating hostility through calls and emails from management at Highland Homes, including their attorney, we now find ourselves in a legal battle to recover our $27,907. We are determined to pursue every avenue to regain our funds, as we believe Highland Homes has behaved unfairly in this matter. Do not do business with this company!!!
