We purchased a Highland Home last year. We moved back in December 2022. Over time we have submitted multiple warranty requests. How they return phone calls and everything else is terrible. They lack communication! They say half of the things are not covered under warranty. We did an inspection through a third-party inspector before the end of 1-year warranty period and he has identified a bunch of issues they are still saying the same thing half of them are homeowners maintenance and not warrantable. The major issue we had is in our living room the inspector has identified a temperature difference on the ceiling with an IR camera so pointed out that and said insulation might be missing. But the builder is not even willing to verify that instead, they are challenging that if they put a hole to verify the insulation and they find out nothing wrong with the insulation then I have to pay for that hole repair not sure how that sounds okay. This has been ongoing throughout the year of residency. Truly disappointed!Review from Cheryl J

I did not buy a highland home, and I couldnt be happier. For over a year we have been experiencing loud music on the next street over with multiple houses being built Ive contacted Highland corporate office several times spoken to one of their managers, the turn it down for a little while and then it goes up. Its very loud. People work from home, they have pets, children, etc. There must be a way in this 21st-century to have a better solution than blasting music. There are headphones and earbuds.By them, letting their employees keep on pushing the boundaries, I have assessed that they probably will not care what their customers think, and are probably doing a lot of corner cutting. Simply on my experience, I will not even entertain the thought of buying a highland home in the future when my husband retires.Review from Abigail B

STAY AWAY AT ALL COST! Pics to prove incompetent builders. Drinking on the job, damages all through housefrom people coming to fix other problems. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Ive been in the house since 2021 and Ive started getting estimates to fix just a major issues since theres so many and Im already at ****** and thats only included a small fraction of what needs to be fixed. I will leave pictures if it allows me to. Air conditioner, not working. None of my plumbing is sealed. My door has been moved. Expanded and smaller and expanded and smaller four times locks never work. Kitchen island is off, centered by over an inch cabinets are peeling walls are completely warped. Air conditioner company has been here right at 50 times and that is recorded through the air conditioner company. I called and got a print out. Still not working as should. Not only were they drinking on the job they were drinking glass bottles which I know for a fact the insurance would not be OK with that. I had a building manager ****** tell me that that was normal that the guys drink after work sometimes. Well, I will tell you if you do your research and look around it is more than sometimes because I am not the only person I have a video of it. There were three different kinds of beers two of them, glass bottles, broken at the edge of my driveway might be why my house is so messed up I dont have a single straight wall in my house. None of the corners are even, all of the door frame and baseboards were warped and have to be changed out the air conditioner called so much resting. My fireplace is rested. I have rest on my tile where it dripped from the air conditioner event, all of the screws and hardware in one of the bathrooms is completely rusted . They damaged my door frame so many times from opening the attic to fix the ac they now just started throwing a coat of paint over it. I probably have about 10 coats of paint on that door frame. They are cheap and careless NOT ACCREDITED BY BBB!!!!!!Review from Rafael F

Look around for other builders. Moved into our home in March 2023 and its been one thing after another almost every other week. From brick mortar cracks coming back multiple times. To cheap garage door equipment, door frames not being installed correctly, and the list goes on and on. The builder managers are good, and do their job on getting things taken care of, but good lord..... the lack of attention to the finishes in these homes are through the floor. You would thing when you upgrade to a half a million dollars home, people would actually give a F and inspect every single small detail, but I guess I was wrong... I NEVER in my previous 9yrs of homeownership in my Armadillo Home in the same subdivision at less than $175k completed/submitted a warranty request. I highly recommend getting your own home inspector before closing, and even after closing during your 1 yr period. That real estate attorney consultation is coming.Review from Larry B

We purchased a Highland Home last year. We moved back in September. Over time we have submitted multiple warranty requests. The manner in which they return phone calls and everything else is terrible. They lack communication! We are still waiting on another phone call from multiple request that were sent out 20 days ago. Still, no one has made contact. This has been ongoing throughout the year of residency. Truly disappointed!Review from Cavon B

I'd HIGHLY recommend hiring YOUR OWN professional home inspector BEFORE taking ownership of a Highland Home. It's alarming, the number of problems we have had in our Highland Home newly built in 2017. The most recent experience was with our fireplace which we'd been using regularly, it was deemed a fire hazard by a reputable fireplace company. We had to stop using it, because the construction behind it was incomplete. It could've COST US OUR LIVES. After living in our new build for only six years, we've concluded that Highland Homes is simply UNTRUSTWORTHY. I do not recommend this builder. Just do yourself a favor, and get your own inspector - a trusted professional.Review from Ashton M

Here is a list of grievances we have with Highland homes since closing in 2022 Shower drain not draining properly Bathtub not working Fireplace not working Kitchen sink leaking Fence build on top of a sprinkler head (how the…?) Broken irrigation (or sprinkler) head. Very lumpy turf that results in scalp marks on the grass when mowed. Not even talking about the grade that allows the yard to drain. With that said, improperly graded yard that resulted in flooding. Fencing that is inches off of the ground. My wife getting yelled at by project managers when voicing issues. Drip irrigation that leaks into the street or pipes that stick completely out of the ground. A mandatory waste service that initially (first six months) wouldn’t pick up trash for weeks at a time. Electrical outlet plates missing screws Unbalanced AC Cabinets that weren’t hung level Chips in bathtubs Chips in counter tops Broken window Noisy toilet An HOA that doesn’t enforce any guidelines mentioned online. Are there managers ensuring continuity throughout the home building projects (i.e., building a fence on top of a sprinkler head, and other issues listed above.)? Lastly, Highlands data collection methods are biased and not done properly. They take a survey of your experience with Highland homes immediately after signing the closing paperwork and before actually living in your new home. All you would know of Highland at that point was the experience with the sales person, the beauty of the model home, and the look of your new home. All generally good things. However, there is no survey after the move-in. Whether or not they realize, that is biased information meant to inflate their data and statistics. I hope that we are the outlier amongst the homes here at Wildflower ranch; that your experience with your new home is one of excitement and is worry free. Cheers, -******Review from Katherine V

So this a continuation to my husband's previous review. We are 2 weeks in a bathroom leak due to highlands contractors not putting the proper dry-wall .This created moisture maybe even mole which they havent even addressed due to them trying to get this out the way as soon as possible. My whole house is full off cardboard and half the house including master bedroom, master bathroom and master closet is unusable. No accomadations or anything offered to alleviate the blow after paying paying $550,000 in june 2022. I am discusted and extremely upset at the subpar service and extremely low class of this company.Review from Sean Z

Highland Homes built my home in August 2014 in Firethorne, ****, ** and both of my HVAC units within 8 years needed evaporation coils replacement which is roughly $2200 to $2500 with part warranty from TRANE. I hired AC technicians to come and they told me that ***** had bad coils within a time period and noticed that my coils were set for 01/2011 even though my home was completed in 08/2014 and these were the bad coils. My Highland Home neighbor mentioned that he also replaced the Evaporation coils for about $2500. I know they don't cover the warranty after 2 years but I am surprised Highland Homes used old TRANE parts that was more than 3 years old for a new home build and did not care whether the coils were defect or not. I would really think about Highland Homes before building a home as there were many issues with this newly built home; I heard better things about ***** homes.
