The total bill was $247.27. I paid the bill without reviewing the details. I requested a refund from Village Pediatrics in January because the visit should have been coded as preventative care. I was issued a refund of ****** for the blood work in February. I called numerous times asking why the total amount wasnt returned. Everyone I spoke with gave me a different answer. In March, someone from the billing department called to discuss the bill. The billing department told me the $127 was for an office visit. I was confused because I went to the appointment assuming it was a preventative care visit. The billing agent explained that we discussed something that was not preventative care at some point during the visit. I asked what was discussed that wasnt preventative care. She proceeded to analyze the bill but could not find a definitive answer. There are no signs in the waiting room stating you can only ask questions related to preventative care. The nurse practitioner did not say were heading into a discussion outside of preventive care. How does a patient know when a preventative care discussion starts and stops? What are the specific preventative care questions versus office visit questions? I asked the billing department why patients were not informed that asking specific questions would result in an office charge. Well, its upsetting to some patients to be told they cant ask questions outside of preventative care. Im not that patient. Why would I pay for an office charge at a preventative care visit when I can ask questions on the portal for free? Its the doctors offices responsibility to inform the patient that the direction of the conversation will result in an office charge.
