We signed a contract to build a home with Conner Coastal Homes. Communication was stellar, until we signed the contract. Our bid was approved roughly a month and a half ago, and the day after, one of ***** Conner's subcontractors sent in the official bid for concrete. On our bid, ***** Conner wrote an allowance for $22,550. Over a month later, we get word that the concrete bid is actually $36,441. Again, this bid came in the day after we signed our contract (9/29/2021). When we question how the first step of our build could be off by $14,000, we are told that ***** Conner is voiding our contract, because he "is not in a position to work under these conditions". We explained to ***** from day one, that we are probably not the typical family building a beach house in ************, meaning we do not have millions of dollars sitting in the bank. For the first step to be off by roughly 60%, is troublesome to say the least. We told him that we could proceed, but we needed to know which other items on his bid were guesses rather than hard bids. I phrased it as "which other items did you blindly throw darts at?", which offended him apparently. I could've used different terminology, which I acknowledged in an email to him. I don't understand how a builder can be paid over $900,000 to build a home, but the first time a customer has a question about a massive miscalculation on the builder's part, the builder is able to void the contract. I guess we are supposed to just sit back and take it. It may not be a big deal to some, but $14,000 is A LOT of money to us. Extremely disappointed in all of this, and now we have to find another builder, further delaying the building of our dream home, that we have worked so hard to be able to build.
