Im a first time customer. Company came recommended as the only place in town.I walked in and was greeted by a nice older lady who said I needed to pay a $75 diagnostic fee, and they would call me to let me know what was wrong with my amplifier, and how much it would cost to repair, and if I approved the repairs. She said the $75 diagnostic fee would be applied to the final total, and I would only owe the remaining balance for any labor, and/or replacement parts. Over a month later I called to ask if they had a chance to look at my amp yet. They said no that there were 2 other amps still ahead of mine. A few days later a young quiet gentleman (the tech?) called to let me know the amp was ready for pick up, and I would owe nearly $200. I asked what was wrong with the amp, and what work was done. He said there were some cold solder points on the input ****, and he wasnt sure about price, but I could talk to the lady when I came in to pick it up. It was late in the day on a Friday so I chose to go in the following week. The following week before I went in on my own then lady called me and said my amp was ready for pick up. I said that I knew that, and asked why I wasnt called to approve the repairs. She said today is my first day on the job, and Ill have to call you back. When she called back she said I was called a few days prior, and had approved the repairs. I said no. I was only called because it was ready for pick up. She said it was in her notes. When I picked up the amplifier the lady introduced herself as the same lady on the phone. She was the same lady who helped me a month prior. I asked why she told me it was her first day on the job, and she said I was just mistaken. I asked again why I wasnt called to authorize repairs, and she said her owner called me a few days ago. I said no, and she called the owner on her cellphone. The gentleman on the phone said he personally called me, and I approved the repairs, but hed be happy to offer me a discount if thats what I was looking for. He asked if the price was fair or not, and then gave me a 20% discount. I had never heard this gentlemans voice before that moment. I asked what repairs where done, and the lady said extensive testing was done to determine the cause of the problem, and it was determined that the Treble Pot was reading weird. They removed the Treble Pot, and bench tested it coming to the conclusion that it was in perfect condition. They reinstalled the same Treble Pot, and determined that there were some cold solder points on the preamp where the Treble Pot was located. I asked if these tests were part of the diagnostic fee, and the lady said no. I was charged a $75 diagnostic fee plus tax on top, and $90 an hour times 2 hours for the repair plus tax on top, and they gave me a 20% discount because I misunderstood them. The repaired amplifier is for sale brand new for $250 at a reputable big chain music store.
