I called Webb eye associates to make an appointment and asked them what the cost would be. They told me the cost would be $110 for the eye exam and $40-80 for the contact lenses fitting. When I arrived they charge me $110. That was before the eye exam. During the exam *********** came to the conclusion the no change to my prescription was necessary. That mean that the exact contacts that I was wearing he would prescribe again. When I went to the front counter they told me the fitting would cost $140 and they would not release the prescription until I paid the $140.00. I paid the $140 and they said they still wouldn't give me the prescription until the fitting was completed. The prescription or brand of contacts didn't change so fitting was not necessary. They said that those contacts are expensive but they are only giving me one set. I pay $150. for a 6 month supply. I want my $140 back and my prescription. I wish I would have read there online reviews before doing business with them. They have a horrible 3.6 stars.Business response

The cost of the regular exam is $110 for new patients without insurance. The contact lens fit depends on the type. $40-80 for a contact lens fit is someone who has insurance. The prices are posted in our lobby. We collect payment prior to being seen. People walk out either intentionally or unintentionally after their appointment without paying. So our office policy is to collect the fees prior to. Even if ************ concluded that the there is no change to the prescription, he cannot, by law release a contact lens prescription without seeing a new patient with the said contact lenses. The prescription couldn't be released because ************ has to see him with the contact lenses we have not an off brand that he did not prescribe. If he prescribes something that he didn't see the patient in and something happens, i.e. allergic reaction, he is liable especially since he wears multifocal lenses. He was given a pair of contacts trials yesterday and since we had an opening asked if he could stay so ************ could take a look at them on and ************** refused and said he didn't have time, however, he did have 15 minutes to continue complaining instead of taking the solution that was offered which was to be seen right then and there. The prescription could've been released right then but ************** opted to schedule an appointment for ************ to inspect these lenses on him at a later date. We cannot refund the $140 contact lens fit fee, however, his prescription can and will be released as soon as ************ sees him in them. We offered ************** another 2 pairs, which is a 2 month supply, a $59 value. The $140 fee has nothing to do with contact lenses as materials but it's a fee for a service provided by ************* It is standard & regulated practice. Again, I understand that a 6 month supply is $177 but the $140 is not for materials, it is for a contact lens fitting fee provided by the doctor.

I am rejecting this response because:
Regards,
*******************Funny how they charged me $110.00. That means they acknowledge that they new that I didn't have insurance. Yet they are very sneaky in that they charged the $110.00 for the eye exam and later mention the the $140.00. When I called to make the appointment the lady told me that they didn't accept my insurance and that it would cost me $110 and an additional $40-80 for the contact fitting. They're very conscious of the racket they are running and there online reviews expose them. I'm blessed and don't need the money but they are robbing others that *** not be as fortunate. They need to be stopped and further exposed. At the end you reap what you sow and the truth prevails.

The employee who provided the wrong information has been disciplined. I'm sorry you don't agree but as I explained, the $140 is for the contact lens fitting, a service that has already been performed and will not be refunded. You were asked to come to the back on the day you came in, 10/4, so ************ can take a look at you with the contact lenses on and be able to finalize the prescription. However, you refused. You're also being offered 2 months worth of contact lenses for your inconvenience. No one is scamming you. The contact lens fitting fee, which is posted in our lobby, includes a contact lens prescription which will be given to you as soon as you are seen with the contacts on. Also, if you notice, the bad reviews were from 3 years ago or older. I cannot speak on those. Have a good day and we'll see you at your next appointment!
