We first began preliminary drawings with WDL Construction for a garage apartment in May of 2021. We went back and forth on drawings till Aug of 2021 when we received the first version of contract and the final version of the contract was signed Aug 30, 2021. It took until Oct. 17th 2022 to get the drawings finalized and the permit was permit purchased. A year to draw up a garage apartment and get the permit passed. The owner, Korie Coultas couldn't even figure out how to do an impervious ground calculation, the architect was unresponsive as was the structural engineer. It was chaotic and poorly managed from the beginning. We should have cut our losses much sooner. The garage was finally torn down Oct. of 2022 and footings were dug in late November Nov. 2022. December 8th 2022 the concrete was poured for the foundation and pad. Since then there has been zero updates on when construction will resume all calls, emails and visits to their office have been unanswered since Early January. The company must have gone under and they owe us 25k for work not performed. All attempts to contact them have failed. My neighbor also signed a contract with them and paid them 18k for down payment on a remodel and WDL has completely ghosted them as well. This company and their representatives are criminals.Initial Complaint

WDL Lumber has abandoned the new garage project. Construction was completed 2-1-2023, and final payment was made on our fixed price contract same day. We were told by WDL Lumber the project was complete. However, on 2-9-2023 the electrical subcontractor notified us that they had not been paid by WDL Lumber and threatened to fill a lien on our homestead. Also, final electrical inspection has not been done. Further investigation by us revealed that final permitting requirements have not completed including the electrical final and final structure inspection, and the construction and drainage permits were expired. When we notified WDL Lumber about this, they claimed this was first time hearing about the issues and they would check into these. Their response back was additional costs were needed to finish the permitting requirements. We reminded them the project was a fixed price contract and these costs were the responsibility of WDL and that we had already paid all amounts owed per the agreement. Since then, our emails and phone calls to WDL Lumber have not been answered. We also received a certified letter of a copy of the intent to fill the lien sent by the electricians to WDL Lumber. Our project needs to be completed. With the pending permits, our ability to get other permits for work on our homestead are impacted and may also impact selling our homestead because of the unpermitted improvements. We will also incur legal expenses related to the potential lien because WDL Lumber has not paid their subcontractor.
