Hired Ron Bickel Construction in Aug 2021 to complete repairs to metal roof, replace rotted wood soffit around home add support structures for sagging porch; add metal to under porch and improve drainage with rain gutters. Cost was $12, 462.00 paid in full. Upon inspection of work completed noted several issues ie: metal not meeting at corners, exposed stone showing where metal should be, trim metal on the eaves of the home is wavy, screws/rivets missing hardiplank siding not painted and left unfinished and gutters placed on top of primed hardiplank, exposed opening in attic space on side. *** agreed to complete above repairs including painting the hardiplank. I called office and made the comment a child could have done a better job then work performed and few days later rec’d letter with a refund check for $3000 stating agreed repairs were not going to be completed due to they couldn’t please me and are upset with the comment made that a child could have done a better job.Business response

The details of the matter of Mrs. ********** seem to be correct. I told her when we were going over the job before I bid it that the metal on some of the areas were the austin stone leaning in the metal could not be tight and the house was not square, so our 45 degree cuts would not meet perfectly. When we were finished with the job we were paid in full. A few days later Mrs. ********** called and said she had some things to go over. I met with her and her daughter, they had a list of things that wanted worked on. I took 5 men out and did everything on her list. A few days later Mrs. ********** daughter called and wanted to meet to go over some other things. She wanted to know why we did not paint the fascia board around the house and I told that was not in the bid but I would help her out and send some men out and do the painting at no charge. We also added a gutter and down spout to the back of the house that was not on her bid. We were going out to paint when we got the call from Mrs. ********** that a child could do a better job. At that point I told Mrs. **********'s daughter that we could not please her. I was going to have my men go paint but my men would not go back out so I refunded her $3000.00 to get the painting done and whatever else she needed.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: The reason I contacted *** several times to come out was due to the poor workmanship as you can see from the above phots and it would not let me attach all of the photos but I have about 30 photos of poor workmanship. He sent his crew out a couple of times to fix items but as you can see from the photos this was not done and still remains unfinished. The cuts are not accurate, the edges do not line up, the hardiplank is left unpainted all around the home. The second time the crew came out it was due to the rain gutters not working properly and they filled up both flower planters in the front of the home and *** assured me that his crew fixed this problem however with the rain on Saturday both flower planters filled up with water again so the problem has not been resolved. If the problems had been resolved by him and his crew we would not have to call him back to get him to come back and fix things. Every time he came out he said he wanted us to be happy and he was sorry he didn’t paint the hardiplank around the home but agreed to send his painter out to fix this, I offered to buy the paint and he said that was not necessary he would buy it and make it right. If we could find another company who would want to clean up someone else’s poor workmanship I would do that however no one is willing to do this and I he is the owner of the company and he should be able to tell his crew to go back and do the job right and make me happy as promised. There is not one cut that meets and lines us, multiple areas where metal is cut short or wrong or crooked. I don’t believe any professional company would not paint the soffit around the home and leave it primed and think the customer is going to be happy. I am asking for them to come back out and do the job correctly and fix their mistakes and poor workmanship. I paid cash and am not satisfied and what is the purpose of having rain gutters if they do not work and fill up my flower planters. I have more pictures and will try and send them in a different attachment if I can. I chose Ron Bickel construction because they had an A+ rating with the BBB and felt confident I would get professional grade work but as you can see this is not the case. All I am asking is for them to make it right and fix their deficiencies and honor his word and his work. I again cannot get anyone else to clean up this mess as no one wants to be liable for someone else’s poor workmanship.
