In November of 2023 I took my 2017 Tacoma to Valvoline Instant Oil Change where they drained my oil and had me start the engine assuming that they had completed their oil change. They asked me to rev the engine to a certain RPM which I did and the engine came to an abrupt halt and shut off with a clunk. The attendant left my side and spoke with the tech in front of my truck but out of my sight as the hood was still up. Later the attendant returned to my window and asked me to restart the engine, at which time the engine started and multiple lights came on at the dashboard. I asked the attendant to rest the lights and he did. I paid my $75.00 and left. A few miles down the road, the check engine light came back on and I returned. The attendant rest the light again and I left. I have spent several months having mechanics test my truck and replace sensors as one error code indicated that can position sensors should be replaced. All of this was to no avail. Finally this month I had a mechanic tear into the engine and he found burned bearings and bearing debris as well as a broken oil pump. The cost of repairs are incomplete at this point but appear to be in the vicinity of $7,000,.00.
