  I received a referral on Andrew Thomas with AJ Remodeling to install insulation in my attic. I had no insulation in the living room, kitchen and hallway. My mother had died 2 weeks prior & winter was here. Andrew presented himself as an honest ********** He gave me an invoice, which should have been a quote for work to be done. Some of this work I declined to have done. I only wanted the insulation installed for 500 sf. He said that the material cost needed to be paid up front before he could even consider putting me on the calendar. I had no way of knowing what all the "material" entailed since I am not a in construction. I paid him for the material upfront which was $1,936.87 on 11/20/23. This included a 3% fee for using a cash app. It was not until I sent him the money that he requested I sign this invoice/contract, which I did. On Sunday 12/10/23 Andrew asked me if he could drop off the materials he would be using. He brought over 15 bags of Greenfiber Cellulose Blown-in insulation. I wasn't sure if this was all he was bringing since these bags cost $13.98 at *********** totaling about $210. Andrew had initially indicated that his mark up was between 10-35%, Which was standard he said. On 12/11/23 he started blowing in the insulation. I asked him about the rest of the material since things weren't adding up. he gave me this story about installing fire blocker spray as well. I went ahead and paid him once he completed his work $1,338.75. I felt that if I didn't pay him he would put a lien on my house. Very little fire blocker was used around the ** ducts. Afterwards I spoke with other contractors. Andrew took me to the cleaners in his markup of almost *****%, not to mention the labor for 2 men at 2 hours. I was going through a difficult time, especially with winter here. He knew this. Afterwards I reached out to him giving him the opportunity to make things right before seeking outside assistance. He has yet to respond.
