    Very misleading marketing strategy. They will upsell their products aggressively and will absolutely not allow you to return any. Not upfront with pricing and will not disclose the price until they surprise you at checkout, at which point it is too late to return anything. They will say it is a prescription and cannot be returned by virtue of Texas law.

    Texavet is very transparent about our pricing on all of our services and products. Upon check-in at our Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic each customer is given a clipboard with an attached medical record. The pricing for each service & product is clearly notated on the medical record form that the customer has access to prior to any services being rendered. This is the first opportunity for the customer to view our pricing. Once it is the customer's turn in line, a veterinary technician reviews any previous medical records that the customer has provided, discusses the pet's lifestyle, and then makes recommendations for services and products accordingly. Education is also provided & includes an emphasis on the prevalence of heartworm disease in Texas, disease outbreaks in the Greater Houston area, etc. Our include the price associated with each service and/or product. During this conversation the veterinary technician tells the customer the price for our recommendations. The price for each service and product is disclosed before the services are rendered. This is the 2nd time that a customer has access to our pricing during the vaccine clinic. It is OUR responsibility as veterinary professionals to provide each customer with the information to make an informed decision about their pet's care. It is the CUSTOMER'S responsibility to accept or decline our recommendations. If the customer authorizes us to proceed with providing veterinary services to their pet we do so, and then the customer proceeds to the check-out station. At the check-out station the customer is offered heartworm prevention and flea control and the price on both products is once again disclosed. This serves as the 3rd time that the customer is given pricing. It is again the customer's prerogative to decline products at anytime. Finally, prior to the customer's payment being collected, the Check-out Customer Service Representative reviews the pricing for the final time. This is the 4th opportunity for the customer to decline products if they do not wish to purchase them. As outlined above, Texavet discloses our pricing on all of our services & products throughout the progression of the Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic. This is truly a model of a transparent pricing policy. Once, a customer commits to purchasing a service or product from Texavet we do not accept returns. Once prescriprion products have left our possession they cannot be returned to stock and be eligible for resale. It is considered a dangerous practice for pharmacists to accept and return to stock the unused portions of prescriptions that are returned, because he would no longer have any assurance of the strength, quality, purity or identity of the articles. Many state boards of pharmacy, such as in Texas, have issued regulations specifically forbidding the practice. We endorse the actions of these State boards as being in the interest of veterinary health. Once a prescription has left the premises the pharmacist cannot be sure that the product is still safe. Therefore, in the interest of public safety, state law prohibits the pharmacist from accepting the return of a prescription drug, in whole or in part, and reusing the drug to fill another prescription. Think of the situation this way: Would you want the medication that you purchase from the pharmacy to be medication that someone else had returned?
