I contacted Bernhardt *********************************************** of *************, ************ on Oct 10, 2023 to get a cost estimate to repair my front porch. They called me back and a gentleman came out to look at the porch. I was informed that the job would need an assessment which would require some labor, and that it would cost $200 to determine what is needed to be done. I was also informed that it would take several weeks before they could come out. On Nov 30, 2023 another gentleman came out to make the assessment. After about 45 min, he had done enough work to determine the situation. I gave him the $200, and he told me that the boss would get back with me in a week or so. Immediately after he left, I sent a text to his boss, noting that his guy had just left and that I paid him the money. To which he responded "Thank you sir. ** will go over it and I will get back to you with our ideas. Then you can decide if it works for you." After nearly two months of waiting for an estimate, on Jan 25, 2024 I sent him another text reminding him that I paid $200 for an estimate and still have not received it. It is now Feb 12, still have not even received an acknowledgment of my reminder. At this point, I see nothing that would indicate the contractor is going to provide an estimate. I no longer wish to do business with them and I want my $200 back.

**************** was charged for the demo work required to reveal the issue he has. Under the front porch. We do not charge for estimates and never have. There for no refund is necessary. The work required to fix his issues are not within our skill set. It was suggested he seek help elsewhere.

I am rejecting this response because:

As indicated in their previous text attachment, the contractor was to provide me with an estimate. Please note that in his own words: Thank you sir. ** will go over it and I will get back to you with our ideas. Then you can decide if it wrks for you. ** always appreciate any input from your end.

Not once did he suggest that it was beyond his capability. I even provided a suggestion of using a buttress system. Please see previously provided screenshots of text.

All I originally requested was a cost estimate, which I never received. Things could have been easily worked out, if the contractor would have just responded. Instead of leaving me hanging with a hole under my porch and no estimate.

The response was a verbal one, stating to the customer that this project was beyond our capabilities.

Bernhardt Brick and Stone charged this customer for the probe, meaning we came out to demo a hole to see what was causing the concrete porch to sink.  Bernhardt Brick and stone charges $100 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum for the work that we performed.  This is all that this customer was charged by **********************.  It was the customer's responsibility once ********************** verbally informed him that the job that needed to be done was beyond our capabilities to find another company that would be able to perform the work.  We will come back out and fill the hole back in, at no charge if this is what he needs, until he is able to find a company that is able to fix the sinking concrete porch.

      Thank you,

      ***** Bernhardt

I am rejecting this response because:

Other than our first conversation on the phone to have him come out, all communication from was via text messages. If his statement is true, then why would I have texted him twice over the two month period after the assessment to get the estimate?

That excuse doesnt fly. And no I dont want him setting foot on my property ever again. I have since learned that its quite simple to repair the porch and I will do it myself this summer.
