In October 2021 we had the owner of DSI Tree Service come to our house to give my husband and I a bid for removing some tall poplar trees in our back yard. The bid included having the stumps removed. We also got bids from other companies for the same procedures. DSI claimed they could do the job without use of a crane, and made the bid based on that. The other companies had said they would need to use a crane, which might cause property damage due to its weight. DSI Tree Service assured us he didn't need a crane. In his written estimate he also listed to remove the tree stumps. He also said he could remove a metal stake imbedded in a trunk at the base. In March we followed up and called DSI Tree Services. On the phone I reiterated what we had been told could be done, and that a crane wouldn't be used. An appointment was set for DSI to come soon after 9 AM on Wednesday March 30th. On March 30th at 10:45 I called DSI to see where they were. I was told he had come to check out our property the day before (unannounced to us) and had decided he needed a crane after all. He was arranging for one that morning. When DSI Tree Service crew finally arrived my husband verified with the owner what we wanted done. We had contacted Blue Stakes prior and had all utility lines marked. DSI owner said he couldn't remove and grind the stumps because utility lines were marked as too close, but that he could cut them to ground level and remove the stake. That same day he cut the stumps to several inches ABOVE ground level, and did nothing about the metal stake. Then he made untruthful excuses about the utility companies not allowing him to cut them closer. My husband verified with the utility company that it could be safely and legally done. Next day he asked DSI owner to come finish his job, and even offered to pay him more for doing so. Owner was belligerent and rude, saying the job had not been profitable enough. Now DSI Tree Service won't respond to our calls.

When a homeowner has ********** come out vs the business is changes the liability around extremely. You also can not tell someone how to do their job when you have no experience. We left messages with you and your your husband several times about grinding stumps. Miscommunication and understanding of the rules of grinding in the ground from utilities companies and blue stake on your part due to the fact that your a homeowner notna business.
