Derek took a large down payment from our family and then disappeared. After finally getting ahold of him MONTHS later he sent out an inferior team to attempt to complete the job. As they were unable to meet our needs we asked for our deposit back generously offering to allow him to keep the cost of supplies and shoddy labor that had already been completed. He has now ghosted us and will not reply to any of our attempts to reach him. We have since found out that this is a pattern and Derek currently owes multiple people thousands of dollars. We are attempting to allow him to settle his debt with us before taking him to court.Initial Complaint

My husband and I were working with Bulwark Fence & Deck on a few parts of my backyard project; specifically fence, pergola mounting and metal beams. The main person behind the business is Derek P****. While his business Facebook page is still active, he has deactivated his business website. Derek actually did a great job on the fence and pergola mounting. The last phase of the project was building and mounting metal beams on a concrete pad in my backyard. Derek took $1000 from me for the material cost of the beams and it has been almost 2 months and he still hasn't done the work related to the beams. I know Derek is facing some personal and professional hardship; I actually found this out by coincidentally calling his former employer when Derek completely ghosted me. I've tried my best to get Derek to communicate a plan with me and he has not been cooperative I'd like to know what my options are to get my $1000 back and just go my separate ways from him.
