12/21/2023 $455.81 Automotive repair “Front Differential Rebuild” I provided new ring and pinion gears and master rebuild kit. I took the part home a installed it on my truck. After installing I tested it, and I didn’t even make 10ft Grinding noses, and the truck came to a complete stop in 4x4, I made it home in 2 wheel drive. I called them back the next day and told them what happened and scheduled the truck to come back in 12/29/2023. On 01/12/2023 they said they fixed the problem, picked the truck up on 01/13/2024 Saturday. I called Eric on 01/14/2024 Sunday and told him its moving but grinding and shaking. 01/17/2023 scheduled the truck to come in and take a oil sample of the transfer case oil “metal shavings in oil”.. After calling and calling, the truck was scheduled on 01/26/2024 Eric put the truck on the lift and ran it in 4x4 and it was making a grinding and a vibration noise afterwards he said he’ll call me Monday 01/29/2024. Monday came and he blow me off after calling him twice, then I called him from a different phone then he answered and said he would call me back Tuesday, he’s very busy. But I had to call him back Tuesday 01/30/2024 late that night and he said their nothing he could do. Told me to just drive it.Business response

The customer brought his front differential and gear and bearing kit as stated. We installed the parts and he picked up the diff on 1/22/2023. He called me the nest day blaming my shop for a broken mount on the housing. I told him that i didnt think we broke it but to bring it in Tuesday after Christmas and i would take care of it. He came in and decided that the mount had nothing to do with the installation. He took the front diff and installed it. He then called me telling me that his transfer case had locked up and that I had lied to him kept his parts and didn't do any work on his diff. I told him that I had no reason to steal his parts and that I had installed them and to bring me the truck so i could look at it. I found that the outer pinion bearing had failed due to lack of oil {this is on s diff that the customer installed and oiled} I took The diff out of the truck and had to cut the pinion bearings out of the housing. I replaced the bearings, seal And pinion yoke and gave the customer his truck back at no charge. Remember he brought his parts to me not my parts he installed it in his truck. This job was something that i would charge a normal customer around 1400.00. He picked his truck up and called me Sunday 1/14/2024 and told me that the truck had a noise between 30 and 40 mph and that he was sure it was the transfer case. I brought his truck back to th shop the following week and did an oil sample which had a small amount of shavings in the oil. We serviced his transfer case {again at no charge} and told him I needed to bring the truck back so i could run it in the air and see if i could find find where the noise was. I called him the next week on the day he was scheduled told him my lift was busy and pushed him back until Friday. We ran the truck in the air on Friday and could here the noise but I tell where i was coming from. I told him that i would call him on Monday and we would discuss it Monday was a busy day and he called me a couple time. I am the only one that answers the phones and takes care of the customers .I Called him back late Monday and told him we would talk Tuesday. Again I was busy and didn't talk to him until late. My last words to this customer was not that there was nothing I could do. My words to him were that I didn't know for sure where the noise was coming from and that he could drive it until we could isolate the noise when it got worse or that he could get a second opinion. This is when he informed me that he was going to the BBB. The takeaway is that if I were dodging phone calls why would i answer my phone on Saturdays and Sundays clearly when I and closed. I repaired his front dii at my expense when it was an install error by him i put extra hours in trying to find his problem again at no expense to the customer. He had had the rear diff rebuilt by another shop months back and the truck wasn't able be driven in 4 wheel drive And finally we never discussed any type of refund the only thing this customer was interested in was replacing his transfer case at my expense. If the transfer case was damaged I was either pre existing or in was done due to his install of the front diff.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: I found more damage to my truck after leaving the shop. I suspect the truck was damaged on the lift, from lifting it to high. Looks like Differential was dropped. Wasn’t damaged from no oil, damage from wrong parts used, front differential and Transfer case locked up. After coming back to the shop, Eric asked me why different gear ratios? That when I Knew he didn’t used my parts. Look in the pictures the old pinion nut “rusted” wasn’t even touched, I gave him a master rebuild kit and it comes with everything. After going in the second time he used my parts. When the front differential locked up it broke something inside my transfers case. The transfer case was in good condition, everything was until he worked on it.

There is no proof the damage to the roof was from this shop I have actual proof that the diff failed due to lack of lubrication. I also have actual proof that the customers parts were installed the first time. This customer is going reject anything I say or any statement i make. As I said I physical proof backing up my statement.Customer response

Complaint: ********I am rejecting this response because:
After Eric rebuilt the differential the 2nd time looks like he used the new parts, and it actually went down the road in 4x4 but the transfer case was grinding. He even tested the 4x4 at his shop on a lift and you can hear the grinding sitting in a another room with a door closed, also heard him tell his workers to shut it off quick!
Eric is lying, I did put oil in the first differential he allegedly rebuilt, “look at the rusted pinion nut and the treads look rusted also, “the master rebuild kit came with everything new!”, I believe he didn’t put the right gears in the differential, because after I installed it, the truck only made it 5-8ft before something “bound up /crunching” causing the truck not to move at all in 4x4. I have plenty voice recordings stating my claim. As for the roof I washed my truck top to bottom before bringing it in to Eric to be worked on and 2 weeks later I noticed the damages after while washing it. The truck has only been to the car wash, his shop, my house and the car wash. Plus the truck has never been on a lift since i’ve owned it.
He’s a master of saying it’s your fault, or maybe this caused it, or that. Also a master at avoiding phones calls or hanging up and switching phones in middle of conversations
Sincerely,
