            On October 13, 2022, BBB requested that Foothill Oriental Rugs, Inc. substantiate, modify, or discontinue advertising three claims: Lowest Price, Objective Superlative, and Environmental Benefit. These claims are found on their website at https://www.foothillorientalrugs.com/ and https://www.foothillorientalrugs.com/bombax-rugs.


            Lowest Price:

            The business’s website claims to have “the lowest price at Foothill!” According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, “advertisers should avoid making unqualified lowest prices claims. One appropriate qualification is to promise truthfully that the advertiser will meet or beat a lower price sold by others.”


            Objective Superlative:

            The business’s website also claims that they have “Utah’s largest and most complete selection.” The Code of Advertising suggests “statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests.”


            Environmental Benefit:

            Lastly, the business claims one or more of its products are “environmentally friendly.” BBB’s Code of Advertising notes “advertisers should avoid broad, unqualified environmental claims such as ‘green,’ or ‘eco-friendly.’ Other claims such as ‘degradable,’ ‘recycled,’ and ‘non-toxic,’ should only be used when substantiated and properly qualified. Environmental Certifications and seals of approval may be used if properly issued. Additional disclosures are needed if not issued by an independent third party.”


            As of November 9, 2022, the business hasn’t fulfilled BBB’s requests to substantiate, modify, or discontinue these claims.
