  I was referred to capstone counseling by the court. I had a domestic dispute and I agreed to do a mental health evaluation. They took my insurance but also had me pay $150 cash upfront for a 22 minute eval and then in conclusion to my eval they recommended I take a $500 cash only substance abuse class with them to my court, so now Im legally trapped in what is a clear scam. I have never used drugs or alcohol but I am an entrepreneur and I see them making opportunistic moves instead of being treatment based. I know that making decisions about this type of thing is complex but Id like to know who oversees the **************. Id like to see numbers on the success rates of students that take overpriced courses with capstone. How can I get this information and make a more formal complaint?

  I believe that there is some confusion on this. ********** does not offer mental health evaluations and we do not accept insurance, nor do we bill on any insurance. We do offer other types of evaluations, but we refer customers out to other agencies when they are required to complete a mental health evaluation. We don't have any evaluations that cost $150 specifically, and I am not aware of any educational classes that cost $500 (at least we don't have any educational classes that cost that much). We are a private agency, meaning that all of our clients come to us voluntarily. Although we do work with people that *** be going through the court system, we are not part of the court system. A person *** be mandated by the court to complete certain things as part of their probation, but they are not mandated to go through any private agency. The courts *** mandate that someone go through a county or state program that is in fact part of the same system, but we are not that type of agency. Further, we have policies in place wherein we explain to our clients, in detail, the steps that will be taken in their behalf before any steps are taken. Also, we don't take any steps without the approval of our clients. So, if a client does not agree with or is disputing the findings of an evaluation, we refund the client the cost of the evaluation, provide a referral to the client, and close the client's file without any further action.
