Entered into a purchase agreement on 11/22/2021 for a new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition. Total purchase price was $38,504 with a trade-in Allowance of $27,000 on my 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring Sport vehicle with ****** miles. *** Wilderness Edition was a brand-new offering by Subaru and the dealership did not have any in stock. I was told I could pay a $500 deposit and reserve the vehicle for delivery in mid-March 2022. Monies were exchanged, the purchase details were finalized in writing, and the vehicle was ordered. I received a call from *******************************, General Manager of the local dealership on 3/12/2022. He confirmed the vehicle had arrived and he was calling to tell me that an additional $1,000 was due over and above the agreed purchase amount because the dealership's profit margin had changed. When I asked why it had changed, he said the vehicle price had declined by $300 but the value of my trade-in had also declined due to the additional mileage on the vehicle over the past 114 days.I explained to him that there was no mention of a re-evaluation of my trade-in at the time of the Purchase Agreement. He then said the additional mileage on the vehicle (*****) accounted for the need of an additional $1,000 on the purchase price. Using ****** Bluebook Average Trade-in Values, the vehicle value has declined by $217 due to mileage during this period! Hardly significant. What I suspect has happened is the demand for this new Subaru model has grown over the past 4 months and Findlay Subaru has multiple offers that exceed my original agreement. This appears to be a classic *************** scam soley for the purpose of improving their profit margin. I would expect the local dealership and the ******* Auto Group to honor their original commitments.
