      On March 18, 2023, I approved the contract with Virginia Deck Builders in the amount of $17,532.29 to build a deck for my townhome. On April 4th I paid $8,500 for the 1st deposit as required under the contract and per ********************** updated value. After Virginia Deck Builders cashed the check, ******* became unresponsive to emails, phone calls and text messages. To this date, I have not received the architectural plans, have not seen a copy of the permit, nor have any work activities been scheduled much less been performed. Given that the contract was executed on March 18, 2023, the latest construction should have started was the week of May 15, 2023. The Contract also provides that the deck will take 2-4 weeks to install. Again, an outside date for completing construction would have been June 12, 2023. It is now July 7, 2023 and neither ******* or Virginia Deck Builders have responded to any requests for updates on the project or refund of my deposit. This is not acceptable.

      Contracted Virginia Deck Builders in fall of 2022 for an $80,000 home renovation project that entailed building a large deck, patio and related features. Work began January 20, 2023. Per the contract signed, all work was meant to be completed within 120 days. It is now July 5 (166 days) and work has not been completed. Weeks or months have gone by with little to no communication. Contractor repeatedly says work will happen and then then does not show up. There has been no explanation of the cause of delays and no-shows.I am left with an unusable, partially finished deck. Work owed includes several railings/privacy screens, repair to damaged siding, trash removal, powerwashing and painting, finishing a patio ceiling, installing a pergola and various landscaping tasks. The upper deck lacks a railing on one side and is a major safety hazard - the deck is 20 feet in the air and if someone falls it would result in serious injury. In the process of this project, the contractor also damaged the underground power cable connecting my home to the power supply. This had to be completed replaced by our power company. I would like the contractor to finish the work promised and outlined in our contract. He will not answer my phone calls so I am seeking BBB help to compel him to finish the job. Documentation can be provided on request.

      The company has done some additional work on our project, however has not completed all the work yet. I will be happy to close the complaint when/if  the work is finished.

      Virginia Deck Builders came out to the house to give us a quote on deck work. We looked at reviews, did due diligence and decided to go with this company. We received a contract and paid the down payment of $10K. However since that time, there has been no communication from the company despite multiple calls and emails. The calls are screened through an answering service and as such there is no one who answers that works directly for the company. I am reporting this company to the BBB as it appears this company has a pattern of taking large sums from consumers but then not delivering on the worm.

      I entered into a contract with Virginia Deck Builders LLC on May 23,2022 for a project to start that July, 2022 in the amount of $24,105.62. I paid a deposit of $12,052.81 on signing day. The project never got started. After multiple delays by the owner ********************* and the fact that the owner would go quiet for weeks and not return calls and messages, emails, I decided to request a full refund. This was done on 9/6/2022. The owner agreed to a full refund and has said in multiple occasions he would send it right away. But time and time a gain gives only excuses and most communication goes unanswered. We demand a full refund ASAP.

      On 30 August 2022, we signed a contract with Virginia Deck Builders for a deck to be built at our address. We made a down payment of $6,250 by check which was delivered personally to ********************* and cashed shortly thereafter. On 12 September 2022,w e notified *** ****** at the company's email address that we had received HOA approval for the project. **. ****** replied to the email saying he was working on the ********* County permit application for the project. The permit application has never been completed. In spite of several email and text requests for information on the status of the project, we have never received any response. On 9 December 2022 we sent a certified letter to the company cancelling the contract and requesting a refund of our down payment. Tracking for the certified mail indicates the letter was delivered. We have had no response. We would appreciate the BBB's intervention in this matter. Thank you. ***** and *********************************

      My family cannot enjoy our back deck because the positioning of the sun renders any type of umbrella useless. So we saved money to purchase a pergola with a louvered roofing system to allow the sun in when desired. First, we contacted ******** Louvered Roofs (**********.com). Representative ***** **** referred us to "trusted" vendor, ******* ****** of Virginia Deck Builders (decksva.com). He came out, conducted measurements and explained the process. We liked the product, it was within our budget, so we asked him to proceed. He explained that a deposit equaling half the cost of the pergola ($10,967.265 ) would be required up front before they could begin construction, which would be in approximately 3 weeks after receiving payment. August 16, 2022 ******* dropped by to pick up the check and reconfirm the measurements for the back deck. After that, it has been virtually impossible to contact him. He finally provided required documentation for our HOA. But only after weeks of ignoring our calls, texts, and emails. We ended up contacting ***** from ******** Louvered Roofs for assistance. Only after ***** called him did he respond to us. After that, he basically disappeared. We cannot leave messages on his phone because the voicemail is always full and he completely ignores all text messages and emails. No one from Virginia Deck Builders (decksva.com) or ******** Louvered Roofs will help us. We can't afford an attorney and we can't afford to lose our money (We have a toddler and a newborn; we saved up for this!). At this point we just want our deposit returned, but it appears as though they want to keep it for doing absolutely nothing. We've tried to contact the main office and no one will get back to us. We need help. PLEASE.

      I signed a contract with Virginia Deck Builders last fall that was never executed, because the company stopped responding to my inquiries the moment it was signed. After two months, I asked for a refund of my deposit, which was $4240. The owner, *********************, promised to send it to me. I did not receive it for several weeks, and when I finally did in January, the check bounced. I assumed the company went out of business, but in late September, I received a promotional email from the company offering a 10% discount for any referrals. I was understandably very upset, and emailed ******* yet again to ask for my refund. He responded that day, asking for a copy of the bounced check, which I got from my bank and sent to him. I heard nothing for two weeks. I then posted a bad (but accurate) review of the company online, and within 10 minutes ******* responded and said he would send me a new check right away. That was more than a month ago, and despite two subsequent follow up messages, I have not heard anything back from him at all. This company should not be allowed to operate given its business practices, much less having a grade of an A+ from the BBB. You are strongly misleading future consumers about what is a completely unreliable company and owner. I am still hoping to get my deposit back, but if you cannot help me with this, the only option left to me will be to sue  him in small claims court. I have a long paper trail of our exchanges, but I haven't uploaded them because I don't know exactly what would be most useful for you.       I signed a contract to build a backyard deck on August 12, 2022, with a 50% deposit of $18000.00. The project was to start according to the agreement I signed, 6-8 weeks from the signed date. After repeated complaints and attempts to contact the business supervisor, he finally decided to start on October 22, 2022, well beyond the contract start date. On October 28, the framing passed the county inspection, and the assistant by the name of ****** called me to submit an additional 35% of the deposit, claiming that he had to order the flooring and railing material to be delivered quickly .for the work to continue. Since August 12, I have submitted a payment of $15,300 and have attempted to call or contact the buisness and have yet to receive a response. Today is November 8, 2022, and to this day, I am waiting for a response from this business despite my repeated inquiry. The company claims an A+ rating in BBB. However, I have received the worst customer service so far. I request a refund of my deposit of $15,300.00 or Virginia Deck Builders to finish the project before the end of this month since they have received 85% of the project cost. Also, they left a dumpster on my drivaway for almost 3 weeks now which is causing me trouble with the HOA.

      We hired Virginia Deck Builders to build a deck in the backyard in April of this year. They did the design and we signed a contract and paid them $2900 deposit in May. The work was to be completed over summer. They ghosted us and never did the work. After several months of trying to reach them, the owner Nick told us they couldn’t do the deck after all. They disputed the original estimate (done by two of their people) and said it was incorrect. They asked what we wanted to do and we requested a refund of our deposit. They agreed. Another month went by and they hadn’t refunded us the money. We have called and emailed repeatedly. Finally I told the owner I would file a complaint with BBB if I wasn’t reimbursed. Two days later we received a check sent via Priority Mail. The check was written off a separate company : Deck Dreams. I deposited the check immediately but it bounced. I have followed up with the company several times and still have not been reimbursed. Calls go unreturned. My last communication was with the owner Nick who emailed to say he would send a cashier’s check. I emailed and called to request that he not out a cashier’s check in the mail since that isn’t traceable. No response yet. I am still waiting on my money.

      On April 7, 2022, we signed a contract and provided Virginia Deck Builders with $7692.50 as a 50% deposit on a new deck. Since that time, we have made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the company regarding the status of the permit and the start date of construction on the new deck. The many calls, texts and messages asking for an update have been ignored. We are increasingly concerned that the company has no intention of moving forward on this project and are quite frustrated with the lack of an update. Today we sent a letter requesting a complete refund of the $7692.50 deposit as the company has not fulfilled obligations under the contract, it has been more than 120 days and work has not begun. In addition, we have not even received a satisfactory response to the many messages, texts and telephone calls placed to the company and the owners mobile phone.
