This conpany is Crooked and fraudulent. If you finish classes they will go back in and ungrade them even if its weeks after and try to make you repurchase the course the academic advisors are terrible, unprofessional, they take weeks to get back with you, they never answer phones, and they dont tell you that you have to buy $300 lab kits. What this company is doing is fraud and if you buy a course from them i suggest you call your bank and let them know that this company is fraudulent and the advisors don’t even have enough training and education! The owner doesn’t even have the decency to have a corporate number, the emails they send out are so bland and automated looking you never know when its a real email. A Class Action lawsuit needs to take place because straighter-line has a reputation for grade inflation and educational malpracticeReview from Adam B.

If I could give StraighterLine zero stars, I would. My college recommended them as a budget-friendly alternative. I registered for one course, didn’t complete the course and they continued to bill me. Monthly. In excess of $2000. And during that time my school stopped accepting their courses. They aren’t accredited.. They say their policy is: “Refunding the money after processing the payment is outside of our policy and the policy you agreed to in the Terms & Services Agreement. This is why we request that students cancel their membership prior to their billing date to avoid unwanted membership fees.” I say that’s rubbish. If an account is inactive, stop billing. When I contacted them, they didn’t stop billing. Then, they offered a settlement that wasn’t even half the amount that they’d collected. Subsequent communications resulted in them offering less and less. Keep in mind - it was one course, my college no longer accepted their coursework, and they continued to bill. Now, how do I for my other courses? Clearly they don’t keep the student’s budget in mind.Review from Aljenae G

I'm highly upset that I took exam two exam for them and once I tried to send my transcript over it said it was successfully sent over to my school. I'm calling my school to ask if they got a transcript keep being told no and I was getting really confused. Looked at the transcript section of straighterline and now see that there is a hold. No one has emailed me or called me to tell there was hold on my account. I had to call myself and all they can tell me I was flagged for a virtual machine/remote desktop but can't give me an explanation for what that means. Very unprofessional to me and I bet they won't reach out to me until I cancel my membership which by the way is next week January 19th and I will not be signing up for them again because not only that I was having trouble with starting my exams and they were also not helpful then. I just feel like they want the money but don't want to give them help for it. Sadly I already paid for another class with them before I knew my transcript was on hold. Hopefully they don't give me trouble on my exam as well. They let you use notes on your exam but don't want you looking down at them! Make that make sense!Straighterline Inc Response

Hi Aljenae, thank you for bringing this to our attention, we understand your frustration. It looks like your final exam was flagged on Friday 1/13/2023 due to a proctoring provider incident. When this happens, it requires us to perform an additional review on our end before we can approve a transcript. We reviewed the incident immediately on Tuesday morning (1/17) and have approved your transcript. There is no need to retake the exam. It looks like you were able to discuss your concerns on the phone with our Director of Student Services on 1/17 and all has been resolved. Let me just start out by saying.... I am not happy or satisfied with this site, requirements and how messy, unorganized and unprofessional these proctor exams are. Don't get me started on their ridiculous prices. $99 for membership plus the class. Oh yeah guys.... YOU CAN ONLY TAKE THE EXAM ONCE. I studied for 5 days and had my exam scheduled on Sunday which I couldn't attend my nephews surgery. I met the proctor named Angelo G and after 15 mins of doing all the required computer requirements, rules, looking around my room etc, I started taking my exam. Little did I know, he transferred the chat to someone else which I had no knowledge of until AFTER I submitted the freaking exam. 2 1/2 hours of my day for nothing!!! Not only do you guys not allow us to retake it DUE TO YOUR MISTAKES, but I will have to pay for the class again and DO ALL OF THE 15 CHAPTER QUIZZES AGAIN??? Ridiculous and biggest waste of time!!!!!Straighterline Inc Response

They will sneak on you and charge you for membership without a reminder or notice like other companies do. That is how they make theri money. Knowing that we are students trying to make better our lives this heartless conduct should be queried. I finished my exams on nov 7th 2021 and canceled but on the 8th I received an email thanking me for renewing my membership and they went to my ****** account without my authorization and convinced them that I have agreement with them to bill automatically meanwhile it was a one time charge. Meanwhile, oct 8 I was not allowed to take my proctored exam because the on their own canceled membership. Making me think if this company does this to take advantage of students. I contacted them and they wont care qnd went aheaf to charge me $99 that I wont need. Please beware!!Review from Connie B

They have a trap, that if your life gets busy and you forget to cancel after 1 month of service they charge you $99. At most companies, this problem is fixed with one phone call and the company refunds your money. Not StraighterLine. They refuse to refund you fir services but rendered. They are not fair. Buyer beware! Also, their credits transfer to 200 schools, but if you go to grad school, or just transfer to a different undergrad school, it may not transfer to that school. You will have wasted time and money. Just take it at a community college.Straighterline Inc Response

I would not recommend because of the non refundable payment policy. Because they wouldn't refund me the 99$ membership but I was not taking any classes and I did cancel my membership.Review from Cory J

The service provides what's promised and if an organization you're transferring to accepts StraighterLine courses, it does serve that purpose. The bad rating is due to poor business practices in terms of customer service; it's disjointed. I finished a course on July 8 and was billed for another month on July 9. No notice that I would be billed and my account was also canceled on July 9. When contacted they said a 24-hour notice was required. Logically, the course was complete on July 8, my account was closed on July 9, it'd be within reason I would not be billed for another month on the date my account was closed. We filed a dispute to resolve it and they rejected it. That lack of logic and service to a customer who had paid for multiple other months showed that the organization lacked any integrity or true character. They provide a service, and I'm sure good people work there, but that lack of flexibility makes it hard to know you're supporting an institution that doesn't really operate in the interest of their customers. $100 isn't a huge deal to us, but it's certainly less of a dent to this organization and they ultimately billed us that fee for nothing. They billed us under the protection of a loophole and the fact their employees don't feel empowered to do the right thing and feel limited by an arbitrary policy is distasteful; that's poor business, and for that reason, I suggest seeking an alternative.
