I have been paying for this Carshield car repair insurance since 2021. In November 2023 they approved a claim for a new "used" engine. The engine was supplied by a company, C&K Auto Parts. That engine is supposed to be under warranty for one year. The car's overheating light came on, I called carshield and immediately took it to a local carshield auto repair facility per their instructions. In November my daughter was in college and a local provider to that area did the repair. The carshield provider we took it to recently did not want to deal with carshield and has been trying to get removed from their list of network providers. I called a tow company and had the car towed, it was not driven. Doodlebinks Garage in ******, KS contacted ********* and they said that since C&K Auto Parts supplied the engine, the warranty was under them. Doodlebinks Auto Garage contacted C&K Auto Parts and they asked for pictures/documentation. When they recieved the information they stated: "Due to the heat tab being activated, we will not be able to assist any further with this claim. I recommend reaching back out to the vehicles extended warranty comapny to see if they can offer goodwill assistance." The mechanic responded to them, "There aren't any external coolant leaks and the thermostat is operational, the engine overheated because the head gasket failed. The failure is not from customer neglect." There has been no further response from **** at C&K Auto Parts. I have documentation that all services were done at the appropriate time. I am requesting assistance to have this company honor their warranty as the issues are no fault of mine as verified by the mechanic. I have 5 kids and cannot get rental and this is seriously affecting our family.

Unfortunately, C&K Auto Parts cannot cover this warranty claim. The warranty is void due to customer negligence. This conclusion is based on the following pieces of information:

       - A 3rd party, independent inspection (copy attached) of the vehicle performed by CarShield (C&K's customer - consumer is *********'s customer) concluded Overheat condition due to coolant going low. Evidence in inspection report shows coolant leaks are present.

       - The engines heat tab was activated (picture of activated/blown heat tab attached in addition to non-activated heat tab) which suggests the engine was continually operated after the failure occurred causing engine to overheat and blow a head gasket.

       - If the head gasket failed because it was a bad gasket then it would have done it without overheating. Heat tabs dont melt/activate until they reach 260+ degrees and normal operating temperature is not close to that, typically ******* degrees. In order to activate/melt the heat tabs, the temperature gauge wouldve been pegged red, and the consumer has a responsibility to monitor their gauges and stop well before that.

       - The supplied engine was clean (picture attached). Coolant residue on engine came after engine was installed (see current pictures of engine in inspection report).

       - Further evidence to general non-adherence to good maintenance practices, the vehicle is past due for an oil change.Firestone sticker indicates oil change due at ******* miles and current miles is 142,516.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I provided documents showing that we checked the levels and Ive sent them to car shield. My Mechanic also verifies that it wasnt an issue because of me. The engine is less than a year old and had issues.

      Regards,

I have a 2014 ***** Traverse that had a transmission installed from C&K Auto parts in April 2023. The transmission stopped working in November 2023. My Truck has been in the shop at Autonation ***** in ******* since January 2024. The deanship claims that a subpar transmission was shipped to them with out the necessary fluids and filters to install it. C&K is expecting for me to cover these cost which if the first transmission lasted more than 7 months I would not have to pay anything. The transmission that was just shipped did not work. the deanship and C&K are fighting about a drag that costs $230 that for some reason is expected for me to pay. When a second transmission is shipped or purchased everything to install the transmission needs to be shipped also. I have been expected to pay for a portion of the first transmission installation labor and I will not pay for a second. C&K or Smart Auto needs to figure this out.

      To **************** -

There was confusion and poor communication among the three parties involved in this ************** ********* (warranty provider and C&K's customer), AutoNation Chevrolet (repair provider) and C&K Auto Parts (part supplier) - which led to the delays you described. C&K spoke to ******* *********** service advisor) this afternoon (3/25/2024) and agreed to pay for the diagnosis work required to move the job forward. Once this diagnosis work is complete, the repairs should proceed without further delays.

      Best regards,

I had my transmission replaced with a remanufactured transmission they sent to my mechanic's shop. Then they sent the part with a bad part on it. After about a week they supposedly sent the correct part, but it was still incorrect. Then after that they decided to send another remanufactured transmission instead of the correct part which will leave me without my vehicle for another week if this part will even work. After the part was bad and the wrong part (both times) my mechanic had the correct new part (same part number) to fix it but will not let them do it.

C&K is sorry for any inconveniece caused by your transmission repair. Our customer in this case is the extended warrany, not the vehicle owner. The extended warranty company has decided to complete the repair with a remanufactured transmission rather than to use a shop's part. A replacement transmission is on the way and will arrive next week to resolve the vehicle owner's concern.

      Best regards,

      C&K Auto Parts

Dropped a car at the dealership to be repaired. Had repair insurance that is handled through this company as a parts supplier. On 6/27/23 claim was initiated. Supplier delivered used transmission to a dealer. They installed it and the part was defected. A replacement was sent again and installed. Part again was used and again was defected. Called this company with the request to expedite the delivery of a part or approve transmission installation that the dealer have. Request was denied and no delivery time was provided. Agent is not helpful and pushed me back to call insurance company or dealer. We have no car for more than a month, no rental and no support from the company. We are being pushed from department to department without any timely resolution. constantly on a call because the proper agent is "busy".
