    I was supposed to rent this unit from **** and Brian from 6/5/24-6/27/24. I paid $1745.49. I was supposed to renew with them after the 27th for another 22 days due to being in Virginia from ** for a research fellowship opportunity I have as a medical student. I am requesting a full refund due to my health being compromised because of mold and poor air quality and circulation in the unit. On top of becoming sick there were many damages and issues with the unit that I experienced from day 1 and every day after. My illness got so bad I was forced to leave and find another place to stay on June 18th. Black mold was on the living room ceiling and in a storage area where urine soiled dog beds were left. Soon as I arrived the bedroom and bathroom blinds were broken and exposed me to the outdoor and on a first-floor area. I felt very unsafe. I let the host know immediately and the blinds were never fixed completely. The AC unit which was the only source of cold air in June was broken. It was placed in the bedroom and made a very loud noise, rattling, and clicking randomly all throughout the night and prevented me from sleeping. Once replaced a week later it caused constant power outages in the unit; it had to be moved to the living room which made me feel even more unsafe due to the window having to be open to install the AC unit. It also leaked water everywhere. The shower was clogged. The bathroom sink was broken. The closet was broken and could not be shut. Dog hair everywhere from previous guest. I went to the doctor’s office and was told my symptoms were due to mold and poor air quality. This is not acceptable.

    I hope none of VacayAway's future customers experience what we just did. After booking one of their rentals for the entire month of Feb 2023 and paying the required deposit back in August (consequently developing plans for our stay,) we were told yesterday (Dec 17) that we could no longer have access to the rental unit we chose because the current guest wanted to extend their stay........??? I've never heard of a company that supposedly prides itself on great "guest service" doing this. The attempt to offset this decision by offering a basement rental in a different location was a sad attempt at making this right. Ironically, some of the reviews we saw before we rented mentioned this kind of thing happening, but when we wrote to the company about that, we were assured" it would not happen in this case - well, it did. My suggestion to all possible "guests" is to be ready to have to change your entire vacation plans at the last minute.

    Please note - this refers to a company called VacayAway LLC; I do not want to confuse this with any other companies having somewhat similar names.
