      I'd been a customer of them for 15 years and have paid for yearly maintenance services for my HVAC system. The summer visit was June 3 and they didn't find anything wrong with the system. I then placed a service call and on July 11, 2024, they came out because although my A/C was set to 72, it kept going up to 78, 79 and 80 degrees inside the house. The Smith & Keene technician came and checked my outside unit and said the R-22 refrigerant was low, they don't replace that anymore and that I would need a WHOLE NEW SYSTEM (furnace, compressor, everything). My only option with them was to get a new system and that he needed to schedule me to talk to a sales representative right away. The technician placed ALOT OF emphasis on me getting a new system and repeatedly told me that R-22 "isn't something they replace and that it's not available any more, etc. Well, I had a different HVAC company come out on July 12, 2024 and check my system. They found that the coils in the compressor were FILTHY and had obviously NOT been cleaned in some time. This company also had R-22 refrigerant to recharge my system and now it works and stays on 72 degrees. I only needed the coils cleaned and a recharge for under **** but Smith & Keene wanted to put in a NEW SYSTEM for thousands. This makes me wonder what kind of "maintenance" was I paying for all these years when the inside of the compressor coils were so dirty. I feel like they did as little as possible only so my "only option" would be to buy a brand new system from them. Of course now I can't speak to anyone since I CANCELLED the visit from their sales person today (July 15, 2024). I'm extremely disappointed since I've been a customer for so long. It seems like I was paying for maintenance that really wasn't happening. I won't be using them anymore after this incident. I don't trust them anymore.

      After buying a new, plug-in electric car, we decided to install a new 240v outlet near the garage to speed up charging the batteries. We contacted Smith and Keene and was told an estimate for this job was **** The electrician, who was very good, worked up an estimate for the job and then informed me that the "total" estimate cost was actually ***** In addition to the original **** Smith and Keene charged **** for the electrician's man-hours. Although we are proceeding with the work, the original stated cost of the estimate was misleading at best. The additional charge was not mentioned until the end of the electrician's evaluation.

      I'm sorry, but I believe there is a misunderstanding. We weren't staying the job could be done for **** Our fee to come out and give an estimate is **** The estimate is then determined by the electrician. If there was any confusion in our explanation at the time I apologize.

      BUYERS BEWARE!!!! I purchased my FIRST home June 16th 2020. The DAY I closed on my home ( summer month) it was extremely hot. what does one do? turn on the AC to my surprise I DIDNT have any AC. I went without proper cooling for months to be told they forgot to install a DAMPER( which helps the air flow) I also expressed June 20th 2020 that i thought i had a leak in my AC unit my request went unanswered for a leak test. July 6th they came out because I still DIDNT have proper A/C flow according to the notes i obtain it was a LEAK and a oil spill along with bolts that weren't screwed on tight. this should of be tested/checked before i moved in.. The energy bills have bee sky high due to the fact my unit wasn't working. My home was under warranty each time they came out. NOTHING was done to " fix" my unit. I've been in my home over a year and i have had proper air flow...I went two summers without AC and now this is my SECOND FALL/WINTER without AC. this company is a SCAM... i lived in a condo and serval people are having this issue.. they don't add the proper liquid and do everything in their power NOT to fix your issues.

      Good morning Shalis. Hope you are staying safe this holiday season!

      Before leaving your review on *** you had spoken with us on the phone regarding your concerns. We went over the service records and found a visit on July 6th, 2020 (where we fixed a leak), and also a visit on July 15th, 2020 (found the refrigerant pressures and temperatures were normal per manufacturer specifications). You state you have been without AC for 2 years, but have not called our Service Department to place a service call since July 15, 2020. We have no record of any trouble calls after that date.

      Our new construction install crews have been out at the start of every season as a courtesy to make seasonal adjustments on the upstairs and downstairs manual damper, and gave you instructions on how to make those adjustments yourself every season. That has nothing to do with system operation however. It is merely a way for homeowners to manually give either the upstairs or downstairs area more or less air based on the time of year.
