I placed a call on Wednesday March 27, 2024, for a leaking hot water heater that is powered by gas. Discount Contractors LLC was dispatched to review the issue. When they came out on March 28th, they took pictures and stated the hot water heater needed to be replaced. On March 29th, I was informed we had code violations that needed addressed that would cost us $1,200 to move forward. Since we knew a permit with ************ would need to be pulled due to the gas inspection, we spoke with ********************* at ******************* ****************** who stated there is no way it would be a code violation on a home built in 2003. We contacted Discount Contractors and explained who we called and then they started to back pedal and state it would not be code violations, but modifications. We did get a second opinion by ******** Remodeling LLC. We also contacted ******* Mechanical who gave us a free estimate and laughed at the recommendation of Discount Contractors. They agreed with ********************* that we needed just the tank replacement. ******** came to our home on Saturday March 30th to review the hot water tank and agreed that just the tank needed replacement. Discount Contractors LLC was sent by our home warranty company who made us use them for the non-covered items in our contract for the repair of a flue modification. Discount Contractors LLC refused to provide a detail itemization of the $1,200 repair. The item they replaced took 15 minutes and the item at ***** was around $100. This was a plug and play modification with no expertise required. The rep from Discount Contractors came on April 10th and said he didn't have the part and the flue didn't need to be replaced. He called the office and the owner said he didn't like the look and it had to be replaced. Discount Contractors forced us to pay the $1,200 upfront and in cash or they would not install the hot water heater. We demand them justify the charge and refund the difference of a reasonable charge.
