When my son passed away in 2010, we went to Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union in ******************** and opened up a memorial account for him. When we opened up the account, we were never told to be careful for inactivity. In November 2021 we made deposits in this bank account and then had not used it in a couple years because we had no money to deposit. In October 2023, this bank closed our accounts and sent our money to the state. This bank has all of our phone numbers and our current address which have been the same for 30 years. Never once did northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union attempt to call us or send us letters saying that you have abandoned your account. Were going to send your money to the state. The customer service at this bank is disgusting. When I called the branch manager in *******************, I got nowhere Basically I was told that this is legal the state has your money. Heres their phone number called them. Then I called the main number in *************** and spoke to ******* to give my concerns on, how insensitive this was. ******** told me that they dont have the time to call every customer that gets an account closed for an abandonment and that they sent me a letter. I never got that letter. Sounds like only one was sent. I asked her if they have tons of people that abandoned their accounts that they have to close on a daily basis where somebody couldnt have put in a little effort and made a phone call . I have yet to get my money back from the state. The state will not even respond to my email and you cannot call them. There is no answer. It says all you can do is email the state. We pulled most of our money out of that account and moved it to Navy Federal. But now still have almost $2000 missing that is *** and Northern Piedmont left my personal account open which makes no sense because I havent used that either
