Danville Register & Bee charged me without my permission a very high monthly rate on December 27. I used to pay 1 dollar/month, yet they changed 23.99 dollars without informing me in advance. When I tried to cancel the subscription, I noticed that I could not do it automatically and that the site urged me to call a phone number to do it. I called the number indicated on the site, and after a considerable waiting time, I was directed to an operator who refused to cancel my subscription under different pretenses. When I told her that I wanted a refund because I did not authorize such a high subscription rate, she said that the rate increased automatically and this is what the newspaper will charge me from now on, and she refused to issue the refund. I insisted that I needed my subscription cancelled and she was still very reluctant to do so. Right now I am not sure whether this person did what I asked because she did not want to confirm the subscription cancellation and she vehemently refused to offer a refund. I had to call my bank and block this business from ever taking money from my account, but I still consider that what the Danville Register and Bee did is fraudulent. I did not authorize this payment and I would never subscribe to them for such a high rate. The fact that I could not cancel the subscription online and that I had to call someone who refused to cancel my subscription when asked, speaks volumes about their business practices. I want my money refunded and I want to make sure they will cancel my subscription and they will never charge me again.
