This company is a complete scam and its business model is to make money by taking advantage of college students. They constantly roam the JMU campus parking lots searching for stickers and immediately tow cars without a warning even if there's a legitimate explanation. Once they have your car it's a mafia ransom situation. You cannot get it back without paying their exorbitant fees ($160 + $40 each extra day). The towed my daughter's loaner car that was legally and legitimately parked in her appropriate spot in front of her apartment because her car with the sticker was at the dealer being repaired. The "Get Out of Jail Free Parking Pass" that they provide is a sticker and cannot be easily moved from one car to another....BINGO....make it hard so that they can tow more cars! We pay for that parking spot as part of our rent. A simple explanation that the sticker is stuck on her car and proof that my daughter lives at that address should be enough for K.A.R to release her car without a fee or question. In addition, they leave no notice so students have no idea where their car is when it's gone. Is it stolen? Who has it? They only know by speaking to other students who have been scammed by this company and then they have to track down the car and figure out how to come up with the cash. The longer it takes the student...the more the ransom fee keeps accumulating. As my daughter was picking up her car, she crossed paths with another student picking up her car who was literally sobbing. I'm positive that this happens daily. When I called to explain to the receptionist that towing my daughter's was a mistake, she went into a diatribe about how this is not her problem that kids nowadays take no responsibility for their actions and parents let them get away with it. I'm assuming this is how she justifies scamming students and making a mint on their misery. Then she hung up the phone. When I called back, she hung up again. There is absolutely no way to prove your point or discuss the issue...it's pay up or you'll eventually lose your car. I've never seen anything like it! Please DO NOT support this company!! They profit off of a complete scam. It's the equivalent of computer ransomeware for your car.
