We began looking for a home in march of 2021. We looked at servers different homes until we went to Allen’s homes and found 2 that we liked, we decided to go with the smaller option because it was in our price range. At that point we began the process of financing and sent everything over to our lender *****. They gave us the approval and sent all the information to Allen’s and asked for the desired paperwork so we could close on the home. We waited for our appraisal from November 7 until the 17th when we got it back. All of this was sent to Allen’s the first week in December. They were reached out to several times by myself and the lender. We got no response. We had everything in line to close just needed the documents from Allen’s to close. Fast forward to today, January 19,2022, I get a call from Allen’s homes that the house we had chosen and signed the pre contract for with pricing had been sold out from under us. When I asked if there was anything they could do they got nasty with me and gave me an option that was something we hated and asked about the other model that we loved and the sales man Richard told us that he would not sell to us and unless we had 30,000 sitting around for a more expensive house he couldn’t help us. I feel I was bated and switched and now have lost 8 months of work.Customer response

We did not make a deposit as one was not required through our loan.Business response

The customer came to Allen’s Homes in June 2021. She had initially begun her home search with a competitor, ******* *****. She had completed her mortgage application at ******* ***** and the file was transferred to us in the middle of July. The customer was told she could buy a lot model home if the home was still available when her loan closed. Her appraisal was ordered on 8/27/2021. Unfortunately, through no fault of ours, it was not completed until 11/17/2021. At this point, title work had to be ordered and completed by a third party. This was done at the end of December 2021. At this point, the lot model home she expressed interest in had already been sold. The bill of sale states the serial number is TBD. This home was never on hold for the customer. The customer does not want to order the home now due to price increase. Prices are out of our control and have increased substantially. Based on the notation on the contact the customer is responsible for price increases, or we reserve the right to cancel the sale of a home. The lot model was less expensive because it was almost two years old. Allen’s offered the customer a larger, lot model home (1,474 square feet VS 1,264 square feet) for the same price, but she refused. The customer then requested we sell her another lot model at a reduced price of $37,000 so it would be in line with her budget. This we cannot do. Since Allen’s had nothing to do with the credit report, we are not able to remove any inquiries. However, ***** is a national mortgage company and provides mortgages for many retailers, not just Allen’s and ******* *****.Customer response

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. I was not informed at the beginning of a lot model being sold to us, I found this out the week prior to them informing me they sold it. There was a different home offered, I advised that we had looked and did not like the home. I had asked if there were another lot model that could be sold and was told that unless I had 30,000 they would not sell to me. I had every intention of looking at the others on the lot with not a 37,000 discount, but just something that could possibly be gotten to us in a timely manner considering we had waited for so long and that our dream home did get sold. The way I was spoken to was unprofessional and all I seek is an apology for treating me in such a way that made it seem my money was not good enough for them. I have never been spoken to the way I was by them. I was going to go and give them my business, if they would have been patient with me instead of treating me like crap. Also let me point out that the contract says the home would be a 2022 model and not a 2021 model or an “old model” Regards, ******** ******
