After contracting with Mr. Chuck B****** to replace the roof and rehang 2 fallen shutters on my rental property townhouse, I engaged with him to do a few ‘handyman’ chores inside the house. He completed the roofing on 25 April, but did not rehang the shutters. Instead, he informed my tenant, *** ***** *********, that he would be out the following week to take care of the shutters and the drywall. Mr. B****** later got back to me with a final itemized quote for all the additional work ($1,175) and requested that I pay him the full amount. I did so on the 6th and Mr. B****** informed us that he would be back out to the house on 9 and 10 June. They returned on the 10th and did a 1st coat of the drywall patching. They did not attempt any of the other jobs but they departed early and said they would return on 13 June. This was later postponed due to a family funeral, but they told *** ********* that they would finish the work on 15 June. When they did not follow up, *** ********* asked what the status was and Mrs. B****** sent an email on 20 June stating that Chuck would be out there sometime that week. When still no word for 2 weeks I emailed Mrs. B****** on 1 July, complaining that we had no communications from Mr. B****** and she quickly replied promising that Chuck would contact us on 4 July and that he would be out to the townhouse the first full week of July to complete the work. This did not happen, so I sent a final email on 8 July that I wanted Chuck to finish the work by the 15th OR that I wanted a reimbursement in the amount of $625.00 from the funds that I had paid for the work not completed. Their itemized bill (patching, replacing parts, painting where necessary) for the 3 areas they touched on 10 June came to $1,100. I gave them credit for half the amount of these three chores, even though less than half had been completed, and deducted $550 from the $1,175 that I had paid them on 6 June. They have not communicated with us since 1 July
