I am writing this review to share my personal experience with potential consumers about this company. It is important to understand I don't have an AXE to grind! However, it is very important to share information that can help another consumer before he/she considers a contract with this company. I will admit, I met with the owner in person (July 2023). We discussed all of the particulars regarding the replacement of my two-story deck. Contracts and a large down payment were exchanged! Due to a family function, I asked for all worked to take place after SEP 2, 2023. After this date, I reached out to the company to inform them I was ready to get the ball rolling. On SEP 6, multiple things were going on simultaneously! Employees arrived on time, supplies were delivered, and the demo began! Needless to say, I had the biggest smile on my face. But as time rolled on, it always seemed to be one issue after another that kept the project from moving forward! To make a long story short, in April...YES, I said April, I could not get the facts I needed from the company, so I decided to go to the planning board to find out if there was anything I could do! That is when I learned the planning board was waiting on additional information from the owner...ME! I scrambled to comply as quickly as possible and updated the Company owners. The PERMIT was approved APR 23, 2024! In my opinion, the company did not do their due diligence by keeping me abreast of all NEWS good, bad or indifferent! I would have done anything they asked! But how could I act on something if I had no knowledge! I wish someone from the company would have shared this piece of critical info! Instead, it held up work for months, and all I received in the interim is unfulfilled promises which frustrated me to no end! Even after the permit was received no action. I decided to fire them & hire another company! Please understand, communication is the key to success, without it we all fail. The Composite Guys Response

I am replying to this review and will explain how bogus, unfair and completely ridiculous this claim is. Ms ******** and M* ****** hired us initially to pour a concrete pad for their swim spa. When contracted we began the work immediately finished in roughly 2 days and they were extremely happy and satisfied and were able to have their spa delivered immediately. Couple weeks after they had us come out and contracted us to change their existing two level deck and add ground level deck that goes out to the yard and around the spa. Ms ******** asked if we could start immediately because she was getting married and wanted to use deck and yard for wedding party, we obtained a permit for exactly what you desired. We did the first part of job which is demolition and dug the holes for the footers and ordered inspection 1 of 3. The inspector came out and shut the job down because of 2 things, 1. He said the deck is too close to the waterline and would have to get environmental approval and also your supports for your upper deck were declared structurally not compliant/unsafe. So first thing we had to do is go thru the environmental review department which took months for them to come out and review everything, not our fault. 2nd thing is because of structural issues and elevation they wanted and engineering review, in which we hired and paid OUT OF OUR POCKET almost ***** dollars. The review came back and made us revise the plans which required us to replace supports and change layout of deck in the yard. This required you to remove concrete pad and move it over and re pour it. I sent you change order to handle all of this for you and weeks if not months went by after new plans were approved waiting on your response to additional costs/work involved. Then you told us you would take care on concrete removal and re pour on your own so more weeks went by waiting on you. You never had work done and then decided you wanted us to do all the work but you didn’t want to pay any additional money because the new layout was less sq ft and you thought that would offset the change order which is impossible due to the structural work and ground work with concrete needed. You then after nearly a year agreed to a unfair price which we accepted and put you next in line to start, we scheduled you to start and we had literally 2 weeks of on and off rain which delayed the start. We then gave you a start date and our guys didn’t show up that morning due to a mis - communication and told you myself and assured we would start in 2 days as we needed to wait for our high level skilled workman to handle this job, then you called next day and cancelled whole project. Lastly your Attorney called reached out with letter for your initial deposit back in which we settled on an amount that subtracted our work already done and gave you check for ******* with assurance there would be no defamation in which obviously you not obliging by. These undue actions on your part is what hurts small businesses reputation and we are demanding you retract this review to avoid litigation for defamation. We The Composite Guys would be happy to provide the *** or anyone with any documents needed to back up our claims.Review from Diana B

The Composite Guys had a competitive price on redoing my deck from wood to composite. Wardell was the contractor who did the construction work, and did an amazing job! He had great attention to detail and added extra touches to make my deck just like he would build it for one of his sisters. The deck is beautiful, and very well built. It will outlast my lifetime. I give The Composite Guys a five star rating, and Wardell was amazing .Review from MaryAnn M

My deck replacement had its challenges. In most construction jobs there are bumps in the road. When these bumps happen it is how the company handles the situation that really defines if you have picked a good one. I had to contact the company may times and when the owners got involved, they tried to rectify all the issues. It was a frustrating situation where grace had to be a consistent part of the process. One thing I would recommend if you chose this company is to make sure you have a project manager assigned. Hopefully they will communicate with you, and you won't have as many bumps as I did. I can honestly say that when all is said and done, I have a solid deck built. Now would I hire this company again, possibly they have a good product and have been generous in their handling of my issues.Review from Larry R

This is a review of the entire process of replacing our 14 x 44 wood deck with a mid-level composite trex deck. The work was completed from July 16 to August 2. It was a complete demolition and replacement of the infrastructure and decking to composite with current building codes. The good: The deck work crew and project manager assigned to this task demonstrated a exceptional level of skill and professionalism throughout the entire build. Asia, the project manager, and his crew of James, Frank, Todd and Matt were nothing short of exemplary. The crews craftsmanship and attention to detail were displayed in every aspect of this build. There is nothing like watching a group of skilled people take raw materials and transform it into a beautiful and sturdy structure. Building permit procurement is also part of the service. Asia managed the workflow to insure the schedule was met. Communication was very strong between us and the crew. We were well informed about every phase of the project on their end, and our questions/concerns were addressed. This open and transparent communication, made all the difference in the world, and established a strong sense of trust between us. Things that could have been better: Upper management/Sales interaction was not as good. After going thru three different contracts, with material not being on hand as promised, or not “being sold” anymore an accord was reached after spirited conversations. There is an small disconnect in communication between the people on the ground and upper management. In conclusion I would use and recommend this company again with the following caveats. Know what terms and what the entire process entails. Ensure that the materials, in the contract, are on hand! Hold upper management accountable. The price point was good and the deck is incredible! Upper management after voicing our concerns did try to make things right … this is why they get a five star review..Review from Steve C

We are extremely pleased with our 2 new decks installed by the Composite Guys here in Yorktown Va. Will and Jason installed a new 2nd story deck off our bedroom and a large 18'x20' lower deck and we're wonderful to work with. Very professional and attentive to our specific needs and requests. We chose a "Tiki Torch" color Trex and the results are amazing. Thank you Composite Guys for your fantastic work.

If you want artistic design and craftmanship, The Composite Guys is the company you want. Brent and James were masters at their craft, even working on week-ends to complete the project. They even put in extra effort to grade the land to improve air flow under the deck using a self-propelled front end loader. Todd was true to his word and contract in every way, and kept us informed as we waited for the material snagged by the supply chain issue. Forget pressure treated wood... the composite material color choices will tap your creative talents.Review from Arrann B

The company starting off well. Great estimation, and Todd was professional. But then a week or so passed and he purposefully ignored my phone call/voicemail and email as if I did something personally to him. Come to find out, the only issue was that he had a disagreement with my condominium management concerning commercial licensing that he needed which caused him to hang up mid conversation with the association, and so he decided to take that out on me as if that was something I was at fault for. A courtesy call to let me know he cannot work with me so that I can continue to look elsewhere to get my project done would have been great. This is so upsetting because the all of the good reviews made me think otherwise about him. As a women homeowner it's difficult to get respectful help and professionalism from people so I'm not totally surprised just shocked that something out of my control caused him to treat ME this way. I already know that this is a difficult area to receive good help from, someone is either unprofessional, racist or just plain careless. I wish I could do it all myself at this point. The Composite Guys Response

Arrann, I appreciate your concern and I apologize that your unhappy but here are the details that you may not have, when speaking with your association person he was the rudest and most obnoxious person I have spoken with in my 46 years of existence, he wouldn't let me speak for 1 sec and it sounded like he was reading from a book, nonetheless when I came out I gave you a full quote for replacing both patios and you indicated it wasn't in budget then I suggested just replacing boards only which is only about 12 boards combined which is not a big job for us and doesn't meet our company minimum but I was willing to help you out however the Association guy wanted all railing taken out and a commercial permit pulled for doing that and the last words I got said to him were this isn't a job for us it's too big of a headache for very little profit not to mention we are the Composite Guys not the wood guys so I was making exception me for you but the guy continued in his book reading style pitch while disregarding anything I tried to say in which yes I ended up hanging up on the guy because he wouldn't even let me say goodbye, I understand your frustration but i would take it up with your association rather than try and defame a reputable company, I did reach out to by email to explain.Review from Frank F

We are thrilled with our deck replacement by The Composite Guys. We would like to thank Joey **** who came to our home and explained the process of our deck replacement. He was knowledgeable about the products that would be used and took into account the price we would be comfortable with. We would also like to thank Bobby who always answered the office telephone if we had any questions and got back to us in a timely manner. We also would like to thank John ***** who came out to our home when we had questions and concerns and was always available. Our biggest thanks goes out to Tito, Edwin and Ramirez, they were the crew that worked so hard on our deck replacement. We cannot say enough good things about them. Every morning they were on time, very cheerful, polite and always had a positive attitude. If we had any questions or concerns about what they were doing Tito always explained the process. Their knowledge of the products used and their experience and expertise of their trade was evident in their work. A safety issue was pointed out by Tito that was addressed and we are very thankful for the outcome. Their attitude is to go the extra step going out of their way to make the customer happy. At the end of the workday they always cleaned up their worksite.
We knew that our deck would be nice when it was finished because of the products used, but we never expected it to be this awesome. We would recommend The Composite Guys for a deck replacement but especially the crew of Tito, Edwin and Ramirez.
